[R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] SB 381 Engrossed 2016 Regular Session Martiny Proposed law authorizes the chief of police of Causeway Police Department, which employs peace officers who are POST certified and duly authorized with the powers of arrest, may designate ten officers in his office as ex officio notaries public. Provides that an ex officio notary appointed pursuant to proposed law shall perform notary functions without compensation and may exercise the functions of a notary only within the jurisdiction of the police department. Provides that an ex officio notary may administer oaths and execute affidavits, acknowledgments, and traffic tickets. Proposed law provides that the appointment as an ex officio notary public automatically terminates with a separation from employment. Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action. (Adds R.S. 35:415) Summary of Amendments Adopted by House The Committee Amendments Proposed by House Committee on Civil Law and Procedure to the engrossed bill: 1.
