DIGEST SB 41 Original 2016 Regular Session Gatti Present law provides for supplementary pay of $500 per month for any regularly employed firefighter who is paid not less than three hundred dollars per month by any municipality, parish, fire protection district or other political subdivision maintaining a fire department or by the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana or Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana, or any nonprofit corporation contracting with any political subdivision and has completed one year of service. Also provides supplemental pay for certain full-time firefighters with the New Orleans port authority. Proposed law increases the supplemental pay from $500 per month to $1,000 for such eligible firefighters. Present law provides for supplementary pay of $500 per month paid by any municipality or by the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana, Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana, or the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana to any police officer who devotes his full working time to law enforcement and has passed a council-certified training program and has completed one year of service. Also includes certain police officers providing services while patrolling levees, waterways, riverfront areas, and bridges within the city of New Orleans. Proposed law increases the supplemental pay from $500 per month to $1,000 for such eligible police officers. Present law provides for supplementary pay of $500 per month paid to any sheriff for any full-time commissioned deputy sheriff who has passed a council-certified training program and who is paid a salary of not less than $350 per month and has completed one year of service. Also includes a full- time deputy sheriff employed as a field representative or process server. Proposed law increases the supplemental pay from $500 per month to $1,000 for such eligible sheriff deputies. Present law provides for supplementary pay of $500 per month paid to any harbor and bridge police officer who is a full-time employee and has passed a council-certified training program and who is paid a salary of not less than $800 per month and has completed one year of service. This shall only apply to employees of a political subdivision of the state. Proposed law increases the supplemental pay from $500 per month to $1,000 for such eligible police officers.
