RÉSUMÉ DIGEST ACT 197 (SB 95) 2016 Regular Session Ward Prior law, relative to compulsory motor vehicle liability security, required the owner or operator of a motor vehicle on a state public highway to have within the vehicle a document evidencing that the vehicle is in compliance with law for compulsory motor vehicle liability security. New law retains these provisions but prohibits issuance of a citation resulting in a penalty, fine, or fee for failure to have proof of compulsory motor vehicle liability security contained in the motor vehicle if the law enforcement officer is able to electronically verify that the owner or operator has motor vehicle liability security currently covering the vehicle at the time of issuance of the citation. Effective August 1, 2016. (Amends R.S. 32:863.1(A); adds R.S. 32:863.1.1)
