SLS 16RS-2810 ORIGINAL 2016 Regular Session SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 113 BY SENATORS COLOMB, BARROW, HEWITT, MIZELL AND PETERSON AND REPRESENTATIVES AMEDEE, CARPENTER, DAVIS, EMERSON, HILFERTY, HILL, HODGES, HORTON, JACKSON, NANCY LANDRY, MARCELLE, MORENO, NORTON, SMITH, STOKES AND WHITE COMMENDATIONS. Commends Anna Monhartova, PhD, upon being selected to receive a Women of Excellence Award in the category of Louisiana Hero of Excellence from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To commend Anna Monhartova, PhD, upon her receipt of a 2016 Women of Excellence 3 Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category 4 of Louisiana Hero of Excellence. 5 WHEREAS, Anna Monhartova, PhD, is a 2008 graduate of Tulane University in 6 international development and has been part of the Tulane faculty teaching international 7 development classes and service-learning for eight years, social innovation and social 8 entrepreneurship since 2014, and in 2015, became the program director of Social Innovation 9 & Social Entrepreneurship (SISE) at the Tulane University's Phyllis M. Taylor Center for 10 Social Innovation and Design Thinking; and 11 WHEREAS, her diverse experience includes community engagement, social 12 entrepreneurship, and nonprofit leadership and management as she has combined education 13 and practice throughout her career, teaching at Tulane University while being actively 14 engaged in development of organizations; and 15 WHEREAS, while still a doctoral student at Tulane in 2008, Dr. Monhartova was 16 motivated to help post-Katrina New Orleans recover and began giving back to a community 17 that had provided her with opportunity; she co-founded a sports-based youth development 18 nonprofit organization, A's & Aces, to address the lack of safe, enriching, out-of-school-time Page 1 of 3 SCR NO. 113 SLS 16RS-2810 ORIGINAL 1 activities for New Orleans underserved children; and she has been a volunteer ever since, 2 while also guiding the organization as president of the board of directors and teaching 3 full-time at Tulane University; and 4 WHEREAS, her social entrepreneurial and nonprofit experience with A's & Aces 5 includes guiding the organization since its foundation, being responsible for the overall 6 strategic planning, financial management, monitoring, evaluating, fundraising and 7 grant-writing (contributed to raising over $1,500,000 in cash and over $1,000,000 of in-kind 8 resources since 2008) and, in 2013 the organization was selected by the United States Tennis 9 Association as a National Junior Tennis & Learning Chapter of the Year (out of 600 plus 10 organizations nationally); and 11 WHEREAS, Dr. Monhartova has received numerous awards for her community 12 work, including recognition for community service and nonprofit work; Millennial Award 13 (2015), Social Entrepreneurship, the Spears Group; New Orleans Saints Community 14 Quarterback Award (2013); St. Elizabeth Guild Volunteer Activist Award (2013); Gambit's 15 40 Under 40 Award (2013); City Business Women of the Year Honoree (2011); USTA 16 Louisiana Charles Turner Volunteer Service Award (2010); Angel Award for volunteer 17 service from the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Louisiana (2010); Tulane T. Sykes Award for 18 the Talented (2010); City Council Proclamation (2009); USTA Southern Section Educational 19 Merit Award (2008); USTA Louisiana Educational Merit Award (2008, 2010); Torch Award 20 from Tulane Athletics (2008); and Clinton Global Initiative University, Outstanding 21 Commitment Award (2008); and 22 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation created the 23 Women of Excellence Awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence 24 across the state for their outstanding achievements and contributions; and 25 WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics 26 of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are 27 committed to community service to better society as a whole; and 28 WHEREAS, for 2016, there are four categories for the Women of Excellence 29 Awards: College Women of Excellence, High School Women of Excellence, Louisiana Hero 30 of Excellence, and Nonprofit of Excellence; and Page 2 of 3 SCR NO. 113 SLS 16RS-2810 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, the recipients of the 2016 Women of Excellence Awards are being 2 recognized at the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's Women of 3 Excellence Awards & Scholarships Ceremony and Reception on Tuesday, May 24, 2016; 4 and 5 WHEREAS, Anna Monhartova, PhD, has been named a recipient of a 2016 Women 6 of Excellence Award in the category of Louisiana Hero of Excellence for her 7 accomplishments which demonstrate she has influenced the lives of people in Louisiana and 8 beyond; and 9 WHEREAS, Anna Monhartova, PhD, merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of 10 commendation for her dedication to excellence and her outstanding accomplishments, and 11 it is appropriate for the Legislature of Louisiana to commend Anna Monhartova, PhD, upon 12 her receipt of a 2016 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's 13 Caucus Foundation and to recognize her vital contributions to the citizens of Louisiana. 14 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 15 commend Anna Monhartova, PhD, upon her receipt of a 2016 Women of Excellence Award 16 from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of Louisiana 17 Hero of Excellence; does hereby recognize and record for posterity her singular 18 contributions to the citizens of Louisiana; and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for 19 the tremendous pride and honor that she brings to her community and the state of Louisiana. 20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Anna 21 Monhartova, PhD.
