A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend Anna Monhartova, PhD, upon her receipt of a 2016 Women of Excellence
Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category
of Louisiana Hero of Excellence.
WHEREAS, Anna Monhartova, PhD, is a 2008 graduate of Tulane University in
international development and has been part of the Tulane faculty teaching international
development classes and service-learning for eight years, social innovation and social
entrepreneurship since 2014, and in 2015, became the program director of Social Innovation
& Social Entrepreneurship (SISE) at the Tulane University's Phyllis M. Taylor Center for
Social Innovation and Design Thinking; and
WHEREAS, her diverse experience includes community engagement, social
entrepreneurship, and nonprofit leadership and management as she has combined education
and practice throughout her career, teaching at Tulane University while being actively
engaged in development of organizations; and
WHEREAS, while still a doctoral student at Tulane in 2008, Dr. Monhartova was
motivated to help post-Katrina New Orleans recover and began giving back to a community
that had provided her with opportunity; she co-founded a sports-based youth development
nonprofit organization, A's & Aces, to address the lack of safe, enriching, out-of-school-time
activities for New Orleans underserved children; and she has been a volunteer ever since,
while also guiding the organization as president of the board of directors and teaching
full-time at Tulane University; and 
WHEREAS, her social entrepreneurial and nonprofit experience with A's & Aces
includes guiding the organization since its foundation, being responsible for the overall
strategic planning, financial management, monitoring, evaluating, fundraising and
grant-writing (contributed to raising over $1,500,000 in cash and over $1,000,000 of in-kind
resources since 2008) and, in 2013 the organization was selected by the United States Tennis

Association as a National Junior Tennis & Learning Chapter of the Year (out of 600 plus
organizations nationally); and 
WHEREAS, Dr. Monhartova has received numerous awards for her community
work, including recognition for community service and nonprofit work; Millennial Award
(2015), Social Entrepreneurship, the Spears Group; New Orleans Saints Community
Quarterback Award (2013); St. Elizabeth Guild Volunteer Activist Award (2013); Gambit's
40 Under 40 Award (2013); City Business Women of the Year Honoree (2011); USTA
Louisiana Charles Turner Volunteer Service Award (2010); Angel Award for volunteer
service from the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Louisiana (2010); Tulane T. Sykes Award for
the Talented (2010); City Council Proclamation (2009); USTA Southern Section Educational
Merit Award (2008); USTA Louisiana Educational Merit Award (2008, 2010); Torch Award
from Tulane Athletics (2008); and Clinton Global Initiative University, Outstanding
Commitment Award (2008); and 
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation created the
Women of Excellence Awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence
across the state for their outstanding achievements and contributions; and
WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics
of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are
committed to community service to better society as a whole; and
WHEREAS, for 2016, there are four categories for the Women of Excellence
Awards: College Women of Excellence, High School Women of Excellence, Louisiana Hero
of Excellence, and Nonprofit of Excellence; and
WHEREAS, the recipients of the 2016 Women of Excellence Awards are being
recognized at the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's Women of
Excellence Awards & Scholarships Ceremony and Reception on Tuesday, May 24, 2016;
and
WHEREAS, Anna Monhartova, PhD, has been named a recipient of a 2016 Women
of Excellence Award in the category of Louisiana Hero of Excellence for her
accomplishments which demonstrate she has influenced the lives of people in Louisiana and
beyond; and

WHEREAS, Anna Monhartova, PhD, merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of
commendation for her dedication to excellence and her outstanding accomplishments, and
it is appropriate for the Legislature of Louisiana to commend Anna Monhartova, PhD, upon
her receipt of a 2016 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's
Caucus Foundation and to recognize her vital contributions to the citizens of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Anna Monhartova, PhD, upon her receipt of a 2016 Women of Excellence Award
from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of Louisiana
Hero of Excellence; does hereby recognize and record for posterity her singular
contributions to the citizens of Louisiana; and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for
the tremendous pride and honor that she brings to her community and the state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Anna
Monhartova, PhD.
