Congratulates Rose Long upon receipt of the 2016 Grassroots Advocacy Award presented by the National Friends of Public Broadcasting. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To commend Rose Landry Long for her lifelong dedication to community service and to 3 congratulate her upon receipt of the Grassroots Advocacy Award for 2016 presented 4 by the National Friends of Public Broadcasting. 5 WHEREAS, Rose Long has distinguished herself as a volunteer of the highest 6 caliber; she has served for six years as a member of the board of directors of Friends of 7 Louisiana Public Broadcasting, a nonprofit organization operated to support the operations 8 of Louisiana Educational Television Authority (LETA); and 9 WHEREAS, Rose Long has dedicated much of her time to the support of Louisiana 10 Public Broadcasting (LPB) and has also served as chairman of its annual Louisiana Legends 11 Gala; and 12 WHEREAS, in Chicago, Illinois, at the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) Annual 13 Meeting held in May 2016, Rose was recognized for her outstanding contributions as a 14 volunteer and fundraiser; and 15 WHEREAS, the Grassroots Advocacy Award is a prestigious honor bestowed on a 16 volunteer coordinator who demonstrates outstanding leadership skills that result in furthering 17 the goals of public media and provide support for local PBS stations; and 18 WHEREAS, her sincerity and effervescence have made Rose an essential element Page 1 of 3 SCR NO. 141 SLS 16RS-3683 ORIGINAL 1 in the fundraising activities for LPB, and that financial support has furthered the access of 2 educational programming and cultural enrichment to all the citizens of Louisiana; and 3 WHEREAS, LPB president and CEO Beth Courtney praised Rose Long for her fund- 4 raising acumen that was responsible for over $170,000 in donations earmarked for 5 programming acquisitions at LPB; and 6 WHEREAS, Rose has spent most of her life as an unselfish proponent for many 7 worthwhile causes; and 8 WHEREAS, she is an advocate for issues affecting women and children; she has 9 helped to organize and support crisis pregnancy centers in Ruston, Louisiana, and in Rogers, 10 Arkansas, and the establishment of a third organization in Natchitoches, the Women's 11 Resource Center; and 12 WHEREAS, Rose is the wife and helpmate of Senator Gerald Long, Senate President 13 Pro Tempore; their lives together have been a blessed partnership, a grand fifty-year 14 adventure that has been forged in love for each other, for the bonds of family and friends, 15 and for their shared love of Christ; and they serve him as faithful members of First Baptist 16 Church of Natchitoches; and 17 WHEREAS, Rose is not far from her husband's side; they sustain one another 18 through all the trials of public life; and their family of three children and ten grandchildren 19 is such a blessing; and 20 WHEREAS, on Tuesday mornings during session Rose leads a bible study group and 21 also serves as president of the Legislative Spouses Auxiliary; and 22 WHEREAS, Rose's heart is in her service to others and she has committed her life 23 to that purpose and has made outstanding contributions as a volunteer to the betterment of 24 her community and state. 25 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 26 congratulate Rose Landry Long upon receipt of the 2016 Grassroots Advocacy Award 27 presented by the National Friends of Public Broadcasting. 28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 29 commend Rose Long and wish for her continued success in all her philanthropic efforts. 30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Mrs. Page 2 of 3 SCR NO. 141 SLS 16RS-3683 ORIGINAL 1 Rose Landry Long.
