REPRESENTATIVE HOFFMANN 
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend Rose Landry Long for her lifelong dedication to community service and to
congratulate her upon receipt of the Grassroots Advocacy Award for 2016 presented
by the National Friends of Public Broadcasting.
WHEREAS, Rose Long has distinguished herself as a volunteer of the highest
caliber; she has served for six years as a member of the board of directors of Friends of
Louisiana Public Broadcasting, a nonprofit organization operated to support the operations
of Louisiana Educational Television Authority (LETA); and
WHEREAS, Rose Long has dedicated much of her time to the support of Louisiana
Public Broadcasting (LPB) and has also served as chairman of its annual Louisiana Legends
Gala; and
WHEREAS, in Chicago, Illinois, at the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) Annual
Meeting held in May 2016, Rose was recognized for her outstanding contributions as a
volunteer and fundraiser; and
WHEREAS, the Grassroots Advocacy Award is a prestigious honor bestowed on a
volunteer coordinator who demonstrates outstanding leadership skills that result in furthering
the goals of public media and provide support for local PBS stations; and
WHEREAS, her sincerity and effervescence have made Rose an essential element
in the fundraising activities for LPB, and that financial support has furthered the access of
educational programming and cultural enrichment to all the citizens of Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, LPB president and CEO Beth Courtney praised Rose Long for her
fundraising acumen that was responsible for over $170,000 in donations earmarked for
programming acquisitions at LPB; and

WHEREAS, Rose has spent most of her life as an unselfish proponent for many
worthwhile causes; and
WHEREAS, she is an advocate for issues affecting women and children; she has
helped to organize and support crisis pregnancy centers in Ruston, Louisiana, and in Rogers,
Arkansas, and the establishment of a third organization in Natchitoches, the Women's
Resource Center; and
WHEREAS, Rose is the wife and helpmate of Senator Gerald Long, Senate President
Pro Tempore; their lives together have been a blessed partnership, a grand fifty-year
adventure that has been forged in love for each other, for the bonds of family and friends,
and for their shared love of Christ; and they serve him as faithful members of First Baptist
Church of Natchitoches; and
WHEREAS, Rose is not far from her husband's side; they sustain one another
through all the trials of public life; and their family of three children and ten grandchildren
is such a blessing; and
WHEREAS, on Tuesday mornings during session Rose leads a Bible study group and
also serves as president of the Legislative Spouses Auxiliary; and
WHEREAS, Rose's heart is in her service to others and she has committed her life
to that purpose and has made outstanding contributions as a volunteer to the betterment of
her community and state.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
congratulate Rose Landry Long upon receipt of the 2016 Grassroots Advocacy Award
presented by the National Friends of Public Broadcasting.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Rose Long and wish for her continued success in all her philanthropic efforts. 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Mrs. Rose Landry Long.
