SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 142
BY SENATOR WALSWORTH 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Dan Borné upon his retirement.
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To commend Dan Borné, industry advocate, sports announcer, educator, and deacon, on his
3 much deserved retirement.
4 WHEREAS, Dan Borné is retiring after twenty-seven years as president of the
5 Louisiana Chemical Association (LCA), which represents the interests of sixty-six chemical
6 manufacturing companies operating at over ninety locations in the state; and 
7 WHEREAS, he is also president of the Louisiana Chemical Industry Alliance
8 (LCIA), a partnership of Louisiana's chemical plants, their suppliers, contractors, and
9 vendors, with over six hundred members; and
10 WHEREAS, he serves as treasurer of the Louisiana Manufacturers Political Action
11 Committee (LAMP), a registered state political action committee that provides contributions
12 to those who support job growth in the state of Louisiana's chemical industry; and 
13 WHEREAS, he also works with the Louisiana Foundation for Excellence in Science,
14 Technology and Education (LaFESTE), which is a 501(c)(3) organization that was founded
15 in order to expand philanthropic activities that promote excellence in science, technology,
16 and education by supporting education and research projects that enhance the economy of
17 Louisiana; this foundation has a keen interest in matters that affect the economic viability
18 of LCA and LCIA members; and

1 WHEREAS, he has served in various public roles during the past five decades; a
2 history major who finished first in his 1968 class at Nicholls State University, where he was
3 also student body president, he has worked in broadcasting, federal and state politics,
4 industry, higher education, sports, and most recently, the Catholic church, often working
5 several of the roles simultaneously; and
6 WHEREAS, his family tree was planted in Terrebonne Parish; he descended from
7 continental French and was led by a praying mama who taught him to be committed to his
8 faith and a dad who taught him to be faithful to his commitments; and
9 WHEREAS, his mother preferred the preaching at the historically African-American
10 church in Thibodaux, Louisiana, to the predominately white cathedral downtown, with
11 lifelong consequences for her middle son; a young girl's family also bypassed the cathedral
12 to attend that same church on Bourbon Street, and on Sundays, that little girl sat directly in
13 young Danny's line of sight; he and that girl, Lisette, have been married for forty-seven
14 years; and
15 WHEREAS, another lifelong love affair began in his childhood when his aunt invited
16 him and his cousins to an LSU football game; although his ticket cost fifty cents, watching
17 the fog roll in from the river as the players took the field was priceless to him; it was
18 ethereal, sublime, and he was hooked; and
19 WHEREAS, after going out for the high school football team, the coach got
20 frustrated that Borné called "fair catch" every time he caught a ball in practice and asked him
21 to keep the stats instead; the town editor coaxed him into using his raw data for stories that
22 told the score and how it got that way; he learned the lesson well, and after college, jobs
23 came toward him in rapid succession; and
24 WHEREAS, a stint at WAFB-TV, where he added an accent aigu to his surname and
25 assumed the two-syllable pronunciation he uses today, gave way to a short teaching job at
26 Nicholls State University from which he was lured to Washington, D.C., where he worked
27 for United States senators Allen Ellender, Elaine Edwards, and Russell Long, before being
28 lured back home to work for Governor Edwin Edwards; and
29 WHEREAS, communication is key to managing each of his seemingly disparate
30 roles, whether recounting fake field goal attempts in Tiger Stadium, unpacking a Gospel

1 message in a homily, or facilitating understanding between the public and its perception of
2 the sprawling plants that spew smoke along the Mississippi River, Borné uses colorful yet
3 concise words, and when he says the LCA helps the blind see and the deaf hear, he isn't just
4 blowing smoke; he follows up with descriptions and explains that the people at those plants
5 make things that make all our lives easier, extend our life spans, and save millions of people
6 from infectious diseases; and
7 WHEREAS, his ability to connect with people, being knowledgeable on his topics
8 and able to clearly and concisely convey the truth, has made Dan Borné great at his job; and
9 WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
10 and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication
11 of men like Dan Borné who spend their talents, time, and energy positively impacting the
12 world around them.
13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
14 commend and congratulate Dan Borné on the occasion of his retirement and wishes him
15 much success in all his future endeavors.
16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Dan
17 Borné.
