A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend Dan Borné, industry advocate, sports announcer, educator, and deacon, on his
much deserved retirement.
WHEREAS, Dan Borné is retiring after twenty-seven years as president of the
Louisiana Chemical Association (LCA), which represents the interests of sixty-six chemical
manufacturing companies operating at over ninety locations in the state; and
WHEREAS, he is also president of the Louisiana Chemical Industry Alliance
(LCIA), a partnership of Louisiana's chemical plants, their suppliers, contractors, and
vendors, with over six hundred members; and
WHEREAS, he serves as treasurer of the Louisiana Manufacturers Political Action
Committee (LAMP), a registered state political action committee that provides contributions
to those who support job growth in the state of Louisiana's chemical industry; and
WHEREAS, he also works with the Louisiana Foundation for Excellence in Science,
Technology and Education (LaFESTE), which is a 501(c)(3) organization that was founded

in order to expand philanthropic activities that promote excellence in science, technology,
and education by supporting education and research projects that enhance the economy of
Louisiana; this foundation has a keen interest in matters that affect the economic viability
of LCA and LCIA members; and
WHEREAS, he has served in various public roles during the past five decades; a
history major who finished first in his 1968 class at Nicholls State University, where he was
also student body president, he has worked in broadcasting, federal and state politics,
industry, higher education, sports, and most recently, the Catholic church, often working
several of the roles simultaneously; and
WHEREAS, his family tree was planted in Terrebonne Parish; he descended from
continental French and was led by a praying mama who taught him to be committed to his
faith and a dad who taught him to be faithful to his commitments; and
WHEREAS, his mother preferred the preaching at the historically African-American
church in Thibodaux, Louisiana, to the predominately white cathedral downtown, with
lifelong consequences for her middle son; a young girl's family also bypassed the cathedral
to attend that same church on Bourbon Street, and on Sundays, that little girl sat directly in
young Danny's line of sight; he and that girl, Lisette, have been married for forty-seven
years; and
WHEREAS, another lifelong love affair began in his childhood when his aunt invited
him and his cousins to an LSU football game; although his ticket cost fifty cents, watching
the fog roll in from the river as the players took the field was priceless to him; it was
ethereal, sublime, and he was hooked; and
WHEREAS, after going out for the high school football team, the coach got
frustrated that Borné called "fair catch" every time he caught a ball in practice and asked him
to keep the stats instead; the town editor coaxed him into using his raw data for stories that
told the score and how it got that way; he learned the lesson well, and after college, jobs
came toward him in rapid succession; and
WHEREAS, a stint at WAFB-TV, where he added an accent aigu to his surname and
assumed the two-syllable pronunciation he uses today, gave way to a short teaching job at
Nicholls State University from which he was lured to Washington, D.C., where he worked

for United States senators Allen Ellender, Elaine Edwards, and Russell Long, before being
lured back home to work for Governor Edwin Edwards; and
WHEREAS, communication is key to managing each of his seemingly disparate
roles, whether recounting fake field goal attempts in Tiger Stadium, unpacking a Gospel
message in a homily, or facilitating understanding between the public and its perception of
the sprawling plants that spew smoke along the Mississippi River, Borné uses colorful yet
concise words, and when he says the LCA helps the blind see and the deaf hear, he isn't just
blowing smoke; he follows up with descriptions and explains that the people at those plants
make things that make all our lives easier, extend our life spans, and save millions of people
from infectious diseases; and
WHEREAS, his ability to connect with people, being knowledgeable on his topics
and able to clearly and concisely convey the truth, has made Dan Borné great at his job; and
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication
of men like Dan Borné who spend their talents, time, and energy positively impacting the
world around them.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend and congratulate Dan Borné on the occasion of his retirement and wishes him
much success in all his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Dan
Borné.
