Expresses condolences upon the death of Anthony Sziber. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To express the sincere condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of 3 Anthony Sziber. 4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the citizens of Louisiana 5 learned of the death of Anthony Sziber on March 3, 2016, at the age of one hundred one; and 6 WHEREAS, Anthony Sziber, known as "Mr. Tony", was born on August 25, 1914, 7 in Albany, Louisiana, to John and Elizabeth Tina Sziber; and 8 WHEREAS, Mr. Sziber was a member of the Hungarian Settlement in Albany and 9 was honored as the oldest member; and 10 WHEREAS, in 1941, he worked at Sharp Station, then he worked at Delta Tank in 11 Baton Rouge, and at a shipyard in New Orleans; in 1946, he worked for Arthur Rogers 12 Garage in Albany for about a year; and 13 WHEREAS, a lifelong master mechanic, he opened Sziber Garage in Albany; and 14 WHEREAS, in 1955, he married Pearl Watts and a son, Malcolm Watts was born 15 from their union; they built a home in Albany; and in 1956, he built a garage in Albany and 16 moved there; and 17 WHEREAS, Mr. Sziber retired at sixty-two and got a job with Charlie Watts working 18 in the field raising vegetables; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 18 SLS 16RS-606 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, he is survived by two sons, Alton Sziber Sr. and Malcom Watts; four 2 grandchildren, Elizabeth Sziber Conrad, Alton Tony Sziber Jr., J.C. Watts, and Shonia Watts 3 Martin; six great-grandchildren, Chris, Alex, Chuckie, Katie, Darren, and Hunter; and 4 WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Sziber; his 5 wife, Pearl Wheat Sziber; two brothers, John and Frank Sziber; four sisters, Julia Sziber 6 Helg, Rosie Sziber Jason, Betty Sziber Covington, and Mary Sziber; and 7 WHEREAS, Mr. Sziber enjoyed sharing his work, fishing, and gardening with his 8 family and friends; and 9 WHEREAS, the death of Anthony Sziber has left a substantial void in the 10 Livingston community and a sense of loss in the citizens whose lives he touched, and his 11 memory shall live forever in the minds and hearts of all those who knew and loved this 12 remarkable gentleman. 13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 14 express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Anthony Sziber, records for 15 posterity his outstanding achievements, and extends enduring appreciation for the 16 tremendous pride and honor that he will forever bring to the Livingston community, the state 17 of Louisiana, and the United States of America. 18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 19 family of Anthony Sziber.
