CONDOLENCES. Expresses condolences upon the death of John Stephen Szanyi Sr.
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To express the sincere condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of John
3 Stephen Szanyi Sr.
4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the citizens of Louisiana
5 learned of the death of John Stephen Szanyi Sr. on February 19, 2016, at the age of seventy-
6 nine, surrounded by his loving family; and
7 WHEREAS, John Stephen Szanyi Sr. was a native of Hungarian Settlement in
8 Albany, Louisiana, and a resident of Livingston; and
9 WHEREAS, he worked as chief of communications and public relations at the
10 Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office; and
11 WHEREAS, Mr. Szanyi was a charter member and past president of the Kiwanis
12 Club of Livingston, and a lifetime member of the Hungarian Presbyterian Church; and
13 WHEREAS, he took great pride in his Hungarian heritage and community, and was
14 an ardent New Orleans Saints fan; and
15 WHEREAS, Mr. Szanyi loved his family deeply and always placed God first in his
16 life; and
17 WHEREAS, a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, he will be truly
18 missed; and

1 WHEREAS, Mr. Szanyi is survived by his wife, Sharon Sibley Szanyi; two
2 daughters, Tammy Sibley and Mary Szanyi; a son, John Stephen Szanyi Jr.; a brother,
3 Joseph Szanyi; and three sisters, Mary Demmerly, Dorothy Walsh, and Carol Grimmer; and
4 WHEREAS, he is also survived by his grandchildren, Kelsey Valentine, Victoria
5 Sheets, and William Sheets; and great-grandchildren, Westyn Thompson and Micah
6 Valentine; and
7 WHEREAS, with the death of John Stephen Szanyi Sr., Louisiana has lost one of its
8 finest sons, a quintessential southern gentleman who loved his community and whose
9 accomplishments have left an indelible mark upon his community, state, and nation; and
10 WHEREAS, his passing has left a substantial void in the Livingston community and
11 a sense of loss in the citizens whose lives he touched, and his memory shall live forever in
12 the minds and hearts of all those who knew and loved this remarkable gentleman.
13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
14 express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of John Stephen Szanyi Sr., and
15 extends enduring appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor that he will forever bring
16 to the Livingston community, the state of Louisiana, and the United States of America.
17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
18 family of John Stephen Szanyi Sr.
