Dunn upon her accomplishments involving physical therapy. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To commend and congratulate Sharon L. Dunn, PT, PhD, OCS, for her many activities and 3 accomplishments involving physical therapy. 4 WHEREAS, born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, Sharon L. Dunn obtained her 5 first undergraduate degree from Northeast Louisiana University in pre-physical therapy, a 6 Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport 7 (LSUHSC) in 1987, a Master of Health Sciences in 1996, and then earned a PhD in Cellular 8 Biology and Anatomy in 2006; and 9 WHEREAS, Dr. Dunn obtained certification from the American Board of Physical 10 Therapy Specialties in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy in 1996, was recertified in 2006 and 11 utilizes this content expertise in her teaching, research and clinical practice; and 12 WHEREAS, since 1990, Dr. Dunn has been on the faculty at LSUHSC and currently 13 serves as associate professor and director of the doctorate of physical therapy program and 14 chair of the rehabilitation sciences department; and 15 WHEREAS, Dr. Dunn developed a post-professional residency program for 16 Orthopaedic Physical Therapy at LSUHSC in 2008, which has since produced nineteen 17 graduates; and 18 WHEREAS, Dr. Dunn's service to her professional organization began when she was Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 24 SLS 16RS-622 ORIGINAL 1 a student and has continued to evolve throughout her career, having served as the state 2 government affairs chair, Louisiana chapter president and vice president, and Louisiana 3 chapter delegate to the American Physical Therapy Association House of Delegates every 4 year from 1991 to 2007; and 5 WHEREAS, Dr. Dunn currently serves as president of the American Physical 6 Therapy Association with her term expiring in 2018; and 7 WHEREAS, Dr. Dunn has a passion for advocacy, member engagement, and the 8 potential for physical therapy to add great value to the health delivery system; and 9 WHEREAS, Dr. Dunn is a member of the Louisiana Sports Medicine Society, the 10 International Society for Hyaluronan Science, and in 2009 cofounded The Edge Physical 11 Therapy, LLC in Shreveport; and 12 WHEREAS, Dr. Dunn is a member of Brookwood Baptist Church and has been 13 affiliated with the USA Triathlon, camp counselor for Winners Circle Youth Camp, team 14 captain for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, and a "What's Up Doc?" table facilitator 15 for the LSUHSC Foundation; and 16 WHEREAS, in addition to her academic and professional achievements, Dr. Dunn 17 enjoys a good debate, playing canasta, boating, college football, and any activity involving 18 the outdoors. 19 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 20 commend and congratulate Sharon L. Dunn, PT, PhD, OCS, on her academic achievements, 21 accomplishments, and service involving physical therapy, and the positive impact she 22 continues to have on this noble profession in our state and on the national level. 23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 24 Sharon L.
