SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 26

CONDOLENCES.  Expresses condolences upon the death of Shreveport Police Officer
Thomas LaValley.
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To express the sincere condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of
3 Shreveport Police Officer Thomas LaValley.
4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the death of Shreveport
5 Police Officer Thomas Joseph LaValley, who was slain in the line of duty while answering
6 a call of suspicious activity on August 5, 2015, has been learned; and
7 WHEREAS, Officer LaValley, born on December 19, 1985, was a 2003 graduate of
8 St. Amant High School and a member of its wrestling team; and
9 WHEREAS, he graduated from Northwestern State University and worked at KTBS
10 Channel 3 as a videographer; and
11 WHEREAS, he developed an interest in law enforcement while covering crime
12 scenes and often helped protect female coworkers who were spooked at times by overeager
13 viewers; and 
14 WHEREAS, Officer LaValley then attended the Shreveport Police Academy
15 graduating at the top of his class and served as an officer for four years; and 
16 WHEREAS, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid New Orleans Saints fan,
17 naming his cat "Drew"; and
18 WHEREAS, Officer LaValley is survived by his mother, Jacqueline Ann LeBeau;

1 father, Joseph Thomas LaValley; brother, Alexander Paul LaValley; sisters, Kimberly Bessa
2 and her husband, Tyler, and Andrea Anderson and her husband, Kevin; maternal
3 grandmother, Helen B. LeBeau; niece, Emily Bessa; nephews, Tyler, Caleb, and Joshua
4 Bessa; and
5 WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Eddie Paul
6 LeBeau, and paternal grandparents, Lillian and Thomas Joseph LaValley; and
7 WHEREAS, Thomas LaValley is a hero who demonstrated bravery, courage, and
8 devotion and will never be forgotten for his service and lighthearted, noncomplaining
9 disposition; and
10 WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, our cities, and American society
11 depend in great measure on men like Officer Thomas LaValley.
12 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
13 extend condolences upon the death of Shreveport Police Officer Thomas LaValley, honors
14 his life and accomplishments, and records for posterity his devotion to duty and his sacrifice
15 in defense of the citizens whose lives he protected.
16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to his
17 mother, Jacqueline Ann LeBeau, and his father, Joseph Thomas LaValley.
