2016 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 30 BY SENATOR ALARIO AND REPRESENTATIVE BILLIOT A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend Mr. Francis Albert Adams on the occasion of his one hundredth birthday to be celebrated on April 3, 2016, and to honor his lifetime of accomplishments. WHEREAS, it is altogether fitting and proper that the Legislature of Louisiana congratulates Francis Albert Adams on the achievement of this milestone in life and honors him as an active and productive citizen of the state of Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Mr. Adams was born on April 3, 1916, near Lockport, Louisiana, in Lafourche Parish and reared there by his parents, Joseph and Marguerite Bellamore Adams; Francis was one of eleven children; and WHEREAS, in 1934, at the age of eighteen, he moved to Westwego which was just a sleepy hamlet of less than four thousand inhabitants at that time; and WHEREAS, having worked all of his life, Mr. Adams is a self-made man, who was employed at Celotex Corporation, at the shipyards of Higgins Industries involved in the construction of PT boats commissioned for the United States Navy, and later as a school bus driver for the Jefferson Parish School Board until the time of his retirement; and WHEREAS, Mr. Adams respectably served his country by enlistment in the United States Army having served bravely as a medical corpsman; he was honorably discharged and returned home to Westwego; and WHEREAS, Mr. Adams and five of his brothers served in the United States military during World War II and all returned home safely from the conflict; and WHEREAS, Francis Adams married Edna Bernadette Lanassa in 1937 and together celebrated seventy-six years of matrimony until her passing in 2013; and WHEREAS, together they reared two children, Francis Adams Jr. and Joy Adams Beck, then welcomed four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 30 ENROLLED WHEREAS, proud to be a veteran, Mr. Adams is a lifetime member of American Legion Post No. 206 serving as both Commander of the Second District and as a member of its Executive Committee; as a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6793 and American Veterans (AmVets), and Mr. Adams holds an extraordinary lifetime membership in La Societe des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux Voiture Locale 201; and WHEREAS, his service to the community includes membership and support of the Westwego Volunteer Fire Company, the Sons of the Confederacy, and as a troop leader for Boy Scouts of America, Troop No. 200; and WHEREAS, Mr. Francis Adams merits a special measure of commendation and recognition for the tremendous pride, kindness, and sense of purpose that he brings to his family, friends, community, and state. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Francis Albert Adams on the occasion of his one hundredth birthday, April 3, 2016, does hereby recognize the extraordinary life he has lived thus far and for the contributions he has made to his community, and wish for him a full measure of happiness in the years to come.
