SLS 16RS-653 ORIGINAL 2016 Regular Session SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 31 BY SENATOR LONG COMMENDATIONS. Commends Donald T. "Boysie" Bollinger upon his induction into the Louisiana Political Museum and Hall of Fame. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To commend Donald Thomas "Boysie" Bollinger, current chairman and chief executive 3 officer of Bollinger Enterprises, LLC., upon his induction into the Louisiana Political 4 Museum and Hall of Fame. 5 WHEREAS, Boysie was born in Lockport, Louisiana, in September 1950 to Donald 6 George Bollinger and Etienette Daviet Bollinger; and 7 WHEREAS, in 1946, the senior Bollinger had opened Bollinger Machine Shop on 8 Bayou Lafourche south of Lockport, a full service marine construction and ship repair 9 company and a business that would evolve to become Bollinger Shipyards, Inc.; and 10 WHEREAS, Boysie earned his bachelor of science degree in business administration 11 from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now the University of Louisiana at 12 Lafayette, after which he returned to Lockport to immerse himself in the family business; 13 and 14 WHEREAS, for the next several years, the younger Bollinger diligently studied all 15 aspects of the shipyard business in preparation for being named chief executive officer in 16 1985; and 17 WHEREAS, having served the business well as CEO, in 1989 Boysie was named 18 chairman of the board of directors of Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., ready to lead the expanding Page 1 of 3 SCR NO. 31 SLS 16RS-653 ORIGINAL 1 business and to successfully bring it into the twenty-first century; and 2 WHEREAS, under his guidance the company has grown to twelve divisions in 3 Louisiana and one in Texas, serving the marine and ship building sectors in both states, and 4 throughout the Gulf of Mexico region; and 5 WHEREAS, beyond his involvement in Bollinger Shipyards, Boysie has invested 6 considerable time and energy in support of various civic and professional organizations and 7 he has served as chairman of the following, still actively participating in most: The National 8 World War II Museum, Nicholls State University Foundation, Shipbuilders Council of 9 America, Business Council of New Orleans, The Nature Conservancy of Louisiana, Young 10 Presidents Organization and the New Orleans Region of the Boy Scouts of America, among 11 many others; and 12 WHEREAS, the younger Bollinger previously served on the President's Export 13 Council under President George H. W. Bush and as the Commissioner of the American 14 Battle Monuments Commission under President George W. Bush; and 15 WHEREAS, Bollinger has served as chairman of the Louisiana Worker's 16 Compensation Corporation board and the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New 17 Orleans, as well as vice chairman of the United States Coast Guard Corporation; and 18 WHEREAS, Bollinger served as a member of the Louisiana Recovery Authority and 19 the Bring New Orleans Back Commission, both organizations that were involved in the 20 rebuilding of New Orleans and Louisiana after the devastation of hurricanes Katrina and Rita 21 in 2005 and on both the Louisiana Board of Regents and the University of Louisiana System 22 Board; and 23 WHEREAS, in the political realm, Boysie followed in his father's footsteps to 24 become instrumental in Republican Party growth and strength in Louisiana; and 25 WHEREAS, Bollinger's participation in the party at both a national and a state level 26 have involved serving as a delegate to the party conventions every year since 1976; he 27 served as state finance chairman on three separate occasions and as a member of the state 28 central committee; and 29 WHEREAS, Boysie Bollinger has been awarded numerous honors in recognition of 30 his many accomplishments aimed at bettering life in Louisiana and improving its business Page 2 of 3 SCR NO. 31 SLS 16RS-653 ORIGINAL 1 climate, and among those awards are: Distinguished Citizen Award from the Boy Scouts of 2 America, the C. Alvin Bertel Award given to an individual who promotes the success of the 3 Port of New Orleans, Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Junior Achievement Laureate 4 Lifetime Achievement Award, the Woodrow Wilson Award, the New Orleans Propeller 5 Club's Maritime Man of the Year, and he was chosen as a Louisiana Legend by Louisiana 6 Public Broadcasting; and 7 WHEREAS, Bollinger is married to Joy LeBlanc and together they raised their three 8 sons and enjoy their five grandchildren. 9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 10 commend Donald Thomas "Boysie" Bollinger, current chairman and chief executive officer 11 of Bollinger Enterprises, LLC., upon his induction into the Louisiana Political Museum and 12 Hall of Fame. 13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 14 Boysie Bollinger.
