SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 54

COMMENDATIONS. Commends Detective Vernon Bailey Jr. of the St. John the Baptist
Sheriff's Office on being named Officer of the Year.
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To commend Detective Vernon Bailey Jr. for his dedicated service as an extraordinary law
3 enforcement officer and on being named 2015 Officer of the Year of St. John the
4 Baptist Sheriff's Office.
5 WHEREAS, it is appropriate that a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation
6 be extended to Detective Vernon Bailey Jr. of the St. John the Baptist Sheriff's Office for his
7 dedication to public service and his consistent determination to serve and protect the citizens
8 of Louisiana as an outstanding law enforcement officer; and
9 WHEREAS, Detective Bailey has been with the St. John the Baptist Sheriff's Office
10 for nine years and was also named Officer of the Fourth Quarter for 2015 for his outstanding
11 service record; and
12 WHEREAS, Detective Bailey's impressive investigative record includes his
13 investigation of a May 2014 shooting which resulted in the arrest, plea of guilty, and
14 imprisonment for attempted murder of a suspect; and
15 WHEREAS, Detective Bailey also solved a December 2014 homicide through
16 thorough investigation, which resulted in the suspect pleading guilty and receiving a lengthy
17 prison sentence; and
18 WHEREAS, because of his extraordinary work ethic, commitment to excellence, and

1 outstanding investigative skills, Detective Bailey embodies the core beliefs of the St. John
2 the Baptist Sheriff's Office that is to perform duties with integrity, professionalism,
3 compassion, and fairness, as well as the office's mission that is to improve the quality of life
4 in the parish and protect life and property through partnership with the communities; and
5 WHEREAS, Detective Bailey is an extraordinary public servant whose heroic actions
6 and dedication to his job go above and beyond the call of duty; and
7 WHEREAS, Detective Bailey merits a special measure of commendation for his
8 unwavering commitment to his call to serve and protect his fellow citizens.
9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
10 commend Detective Vernon Bailey Jr. for his dedicated service as an extraordinary law
11 enforcement officer and on being named 2015 Officer of the Year of St. John the Baptist
12 Sheriff's Office.
13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
14 Detective Vernon Bailey Jr.
