SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 108
BY SENATOR LUNEAU 
COMMENDATIONS.  Designates May 15 - May 21, 2016, as Police Week in the state of
Louisiana and commends the service of law enforcement officers.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To designate the week of May 15 through May 21, 2016, as Police Week in the state of
3 Louisiana and to commend the service of law enforcement officers.
4 WHEREAS, there are approximately nine hundred thousand law enforcement
5 officers serving in communities across the United States; and
6 WHEREAS, nearly sixty thousand assaults against law enforcement officers are
7 reported each year, resulting in approximately sixteen thousand injuries; and
8 WHEREAS, since the first recorded death in 1791, more than twenty thousand law
9 enforcement officers in the United States have made the ultimate sacrifice and have been
10 killed in the line of duty, including members of the Louisiana law enforcement community;
11 and
12 WHEREAS, the names of these notable public servants are engraved on the walls of
13 the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.; and 
14 WHEREAS, many new names of fallen heroes will be added to the National Law
15 Enforcement Officers Memorial this spring; these new names will include the one hundred
16 twenty-four officers killed in 2015 and the one hundred fifty-six officers killed in previous
17 years; and 
18 WHEREAS, the service and sacrifice of all officers who have been killed in the line

1 of duty will be honored during the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund's
2 28th Annual Candlelight Vigil to be held on May 13, 2016; and 
3 WHEREAS, May 15, 2016, is designated as Peace Officers Memorial Day to honor
4 all of the fallen officers and their families.
5 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
6 does hereby designate the week of May 15 through May 21, 2016, as Police Week in the
7 state of Louisiana and does hereby commend all law enforcement officers for their
8 professionalism and dedicated service in communities across our nation and the state of
9 Louisiana.
10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
11 Louisiana Fraternal Order of Police.
