COMMENDATIONS. Commends Della Gary for 60 years of dedicated service at the
CITGO Lake Charles Manufacturing Complex.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend and congratulate Della Gary for sixty years of dedicated service at the CITGO
3 Lake Charles Manufacturing Complex.
4 WHEREAS, Payroll Supervisor Della Gary celebrates her sixtieth service
5 anniversary at the CITGO Lake Charles Manufacturing Complex on May 25, 2016; and
6 WHEREAS, a native of Iowa, Louisiana, Della began her career at the CITGO Lake
7 Charles Refinery as a mail clerk in 1956 delivering mail to office and field personnel on a
8 daily basis; and
9 WHEREAS, just six months later, she was promoted to a payroll clerk where she
10 manually imported information from timecards for an appropriate tally for employee
11 paychecks; and
12 WHEREAS, Della was elevated to Payroll Supervisor in 1980 and has been in that
13 position since then; and
14 WHEREAS, for six decades, Della has shown her dedication, accuracy, and work
15 ethic in the Payroll Division and is currently the longest serving CITGO employee on record;
16 and
17 WHEREAS, Della has witnessed the transition from typewriters being used to
18 manually type checks to the use of computers and check printers to no checks-direct deposit

1 and the change from manual input of employee time for payroll purposes to an automated
2 system; and
3 WHEREAS, Della Gary was recognized at CITGO for her efforts at LCMC during
4 the aftermath of Hurricane Rita during which period Della and her department lived in
5 FEMA trailers referenced as "Ritaville" on-site for two weeks to ensure work hours were
6 being recorded and payroll could be processed; and
7 WHEREAS, in 2015, Della was featured in the book and video documentary "The
8 Forgotten Storm" that CITGO Lake Charles produced about its story during Hurricane Rita;
9 and
10 WHEREAS, Della was nominated by her peers in 2013 as a CITGO Presidential
11 Award recipient and was honored with the award at a special awards celebration at the
12 CITGO Corporate Headquarters in Houston, Texas; and
13 WHEREAS, Della's tenure at CITGO is a remarkable accomplishment which not
14 only inspires others to strive for long-term dedication, but she also sets the example of a
15 superior commitment to excellence and work ethics for which she is highly esteemed by her
16 peers and dearly loved at CITGO.
17 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
18 does hereby commend and congratulate Della Gary for sixty years of dedicated service at
19 the CITGO Lake Charles Manufacturing Complex.
20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Della
21 Gray.
