BY SENATOR GATTI
COMMENDATIONS. Commends the Benton High School golf team on winning its fifth
consecutive District II state championship.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To commend the Benton High School of Benton, Louisiana golf team on winning its fifth
3 consecutive Division II state championship.
4 WHEREAS, the Benton High golf team won its fifth consecutive state title despite
5 losing three key golfers who participated in the previous championships and who graduated
6 in 2015; and
7 WHEREAS, members of the 2016 state championship golf team are Hayden White,
8 David Cole, Colton Ryan, Phil Tran and Alex Acurio, all of whom contributed to the team
9 victory and another successful golf season at Benton High School; and
10 WHEREAS, with a younger group of primarily underclassmen, Coach Tim Cram
11 challenged the younger golfers to bring home the school's fifth consecutive state title, an
12 exceedingly difficult feat; and
13 WHEREAS, Benton High golfer, Hayden White and Loranger High School's
14 Kristofer Kerr tied for the lowest score at the end of the thirty-six hole event and remained
15 tied through a seven-hole playoff which was eventually called for darkness, leaving the two
16 young men tied for medalist honors and they were named co-champions; and
17 WHEREAS, the Benton team shot a second round four-over-par two hundred

1 E.D. White High School from Thibodaux, Louisiana by fourteen strokes; and
2 WHEREAS, Coach Cram stated that his golfers "played better today (the second day
3 of the seventy-two hole event) than yesterday" and "they showed a lot of grit", as he
4 expressed great pride in his players; and
5 WHEREAS, Hayden White shot a three under par sixty-nine in the first round and
6 began the second round with six birdies on the front nine, thus notching a five under par
7 second round to finish the seventy-two holes at eight under par and tied for first place; and
8 WHEREAS, David Cole, a senior who ended his high school golf career with four
9 state championship titles, and Colton Ryan tied for sixth at the end of thirty-six holes with
10 Ryan finishing with a one over par seventy-three and Cole shooting a second round
11 seventy-five; and
12 WHEREAS, Phil Tran shot a second round seventy-seven and finished nineteenth
13 with a two-day tally of five over par; and
14 WHEREAS, Alex Acurio's scores did not contribute to the final team score, as only
15 the top four scores are considered, it should be noted that he shot a one under par
16 seventy-one on the final day, bettering his first round score by nine strokes; and
17 WHEREAS, with exceptional concentration and a clear view of the eventual goal of
18 another state golf championship, the 2016 Benton High School golf team brought home the
19 fifth consecutive District II state championship for their team, their coach, and their school.
20 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
