SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 172

COMMENDATIONS. Commends the organizers of the Louisiana Hugh O'Brian Youth
Leadership seminars and recognizes June 1, 2016, as HOBY Youth Leadership Day at the
Capitol.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend the organizers of the Louisiana Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership seminars and
3 to recognize June 1, 2016, as "HOBY Youth Leadership Day" at the Capitol.
4 WHEREAS, Hugh O'Brian, the Hollywood star who portrayed Wyatt Earp in the
5 television series "The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp", founded the Hugh O'Brian Youth
6 Leadership Foundation in 1958; and
7 WHEREAS, the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Foundation, also known as HOBY,
8 organizes and promotes annual leadership seminars for thousands of high school sophomores
9 throughout the United States and abroad; and
10 WHEREAS, the objectives of the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program are to
11 seek out, recognize, develop, and reward leadership potential in high school students, to
12 encourage and assist young people in their quests for self-identification and personal
13 development, to host workshops for young people with recognized leaders in business,
14 industry, government, science, and education, and to stimulate opportunities for young
15 people to demonstrate their leadership abilities for the benefit of their communities and their
16 country; and
17 WHEREAS, to date, more than four hundred seventy-five thousand students have
18 completed the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program.

1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
2 does hereby commend the organizers of the Louisiana Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership
3 seminars slated for June 10-12, 2016, and does hereby recognize June 1, 2016, as "HOBY
4 Youth Leadership Day" in the state of Louisiana.
5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
6 Cindy Bishop, Leadership Seminar Chairman of the Louisiana HOBY Leadership Seminar,
7 Nial Patel, Corporate Board Chairman of Louisiana HOBY, and to Hugh O'Brian, who
8 turned ninety-one years of age on April 19, 2016.
