SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 195

SENATE. Recognizes the 2016 Men's Tennis Team at Xavier University of Louisiana for
a record setting season and Alan Green as ITA/NAIA National Coach of the Year.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend and congratulate Xavier University of Louisiana's 2016 men's tennis team on
3 becoming the first XU team in any sport to reach the National Association of
4 Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Championship finals and Coach Alan Green as
5 ITA/NAIA National Coach of the Year.
6 WHEREAS, XU's men's tennis team, known as the Gold Rush, finished as the 2016
7 national tournament's runner-up and finished No. 2 in the postseason coaches poll; and
8 WHEREAS, the 2016 Gold Rush roster included: Adam Albrecht, Manav Chakma,
9 Kevin Chaouat, Tushar Mandlekar, Kyle Montrel, Karan Salwan, and Thomas Setodji; and
10 WHEREAS, XU's fierce competition has produced three first team selections on the
11 2016 NAIA Men's Tennis All-America Team, namely Kyle Montrel, Karan Salwan, and
12 Thomas Setodji; and
13 WHEREAS, XU's Gold Rush's 2016 record is seventeen wins and eight losses; and
14 WHEREAS, XU has a school record of five victories against NCAA Division I
15 opponents and eight wins and zero losses against NAIA opponents; and
16 WHEREAS, XU has a current streak of seventy-seven consecutive appearances in
17 the NAIA top twenty-five coaches poll, with the streak beginning April 4, 2007, and forty-
18 seven consecutive top ten rankings; and

1 WHEREAS, the amazing accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved
2 without the guidance and skills of XU's men's tennis head coach Alan Green; and
3 WHEREAS, Alan Green's coaching skills has been noticed and recognized on the
4 national level, resulting in him being selected to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA)
5 as the NAIA 2016 Men's National Coach of the Year; and
6 WHEREAS, XU's entire men's tennis team (coach and members) having displayed
7 excellence sportsmanship has brought a tremendous sense of honor and pride to the
8 university, state and community, and deserves recognition for their outstanding performance
9 all season, culminating in their performance at the 2016 NAIA Men's Tennis National
10 Championship.
11 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
12 does hereby commend Xavier University of Louisiana's 2016 men's tennis team on
13 becoming the first XU team in any sport to reach a NAIA championship final and does
14 hereby congratulate coach Alan Green on being selected ITA/NAIA 2016 Men's National
15 Coach of the Year.
16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
17 Coach Alan Green at Xavier University of Louisiana.
