SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 40

COMMENDATIONS. Commends Louisiana author James Lee Burke for his literary
accomplishments.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend Louisiana best selling author James Lee Burke for his literary
3 accomplishments and to recognize the inaugural Dave Robicheaux's Hometown
4 Literary Festival.
5 WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens and the Senate of Louisiana
6 recognize Louisiana author James Lee Burke and recognize one of his most famous fictional
7 characters, detective Dave Robicheaux, who prowls South Louisiana fighting crime in the
8 inaugural Dave Robicheaux's Hometown Literary Festival: Celebrating Storytellers from
9 Iberia & Beyond to be held April 8-10, 2016 in New Iberia, Louisiana; and
10 WHEREAS, the festival will have storytelling, theatrical vignettes, movies, music,
11 local cuisine, bourre' lessons, an academic symposium and, of course, tours of the places the
12 fictional Dave Robicheaux has roamed; and
13 WHEREAS, the seventy-nine year old best selling author James Lee Burke has put
14 New Iberia, Louisiana on the map, bringing tourists to see the places his fictional character
15 Dave Robicheaux visits in his novels; and
16 WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
17 and the overall vitality of American society depend in great measure upon men with
18 imaginations like James Lee Burke.

1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
2 does hereby commend Louisiana best selling author James Lee Burke for his numerous
3 literary accomplishments and pays tribute to him by recognizing the inaugural Dave
4 Robicheaux's Hometown Literary Festival.
5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
6 James Lee Burke and Howard Kingston.
