SLS 16RS-1372 ORIGINAL 2016 Regular Session SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 45 BY SENATOR BISHOP COMMENDATIONS. Commends Bernardine Dupre' on the occasion of her retirement from the Louisiana Workforce Commission and recognizes her exemplary public service during her extraordinary 49 year career with the agency. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend and congratulate Bernardine Dupré upon the occasion of her retirement from 3 the Louisiana Workforce Commission and to recognize her exemplary public service 4 during her extraordinary forty-nine year career with the agency. 5 WHEREAS, Bernardine Dupré graduated from Xavier University in New Orleans 6 with a bachelor of arts degree in history; and 7 WHEREAS, she started with Louisiana Department of Labor in August of 1967 8 working in testing, training, job placement and claims taking, eventually becoming regional 9 manager over all placement and unemployment insurance activities for the New Orleans 10 area; and 11 WHEREAS, Ms. Dupré joined the Incumbent Worker Training Unit at the 12 Workforce Commission in 2008, and her work in this unit has been instrumental in awarding 13 training grants that have resulted in thousands of Louisiana workers upgrading their job 14 skills; and 15 WHEREAS, she has announced her retirement on May first from the New Orleans 16 Incumbent Worker Training Office; and 17 WHEREAS, she is a role model and friend to hundreds of co-workers, and is greatly 18 admired for her grace under pressure and dedication to improving the lives of workers and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 45 SLS 16RS-1372 ORIGINAL 1 jobseekers; and 2 WHEREAS, she was married for forty-eight years to Emilo Dupré (1945-2015), a 3 founder and president of the Community Organization for Urban Politics (COUP), and 4 former president of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation; and 5 WHEREAS, she looks forward to spending time in her retirement with her daughter 6 Monica, and son-in-law Mohammed Witherspoon, and grandchildren, Monet and 7 Montgomery Witherspoon; and 8 WHEREAS, she is a dedicated parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, whose 9 ministry to the homeless will be a focal point of her post employment activities. 10 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 11 does hereby commend and congratulate Bernardine Dupré upon the occasion of her 12 retirement from the Louisiana Workforce Commission and acknowledge with tremendous 13 gratitude her outstanding contribution to the furtherance of employment and training in her 14 community. 15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does 16 hereby extend to her all the best wishes for success and happiness in her future endeavors. 17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 18 Bernardine Dupré.
