SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 79
BY SENATOR BARROW 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Rev. S. C. Dixon on his 20 years of ministry at Greater
Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To commend Reverend S.C. Dixon upon the celebration of his twentieth anniversary as
3 pastor of the Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church.
4 WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens and the Senate of the Legislature
5 of Louisiana commend and celebrate Reverend S.C. Dixon for his remarkable term of
6 devotion to God and his congregation, and to extend to him sincere and heartfelt
7 appreciation upon the celebration of his twentieth anniversary as pastor of the Greater Mount
8 Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and
9 WHEREAS, Sheldon Charles Dixon was born on May 3, 1965, in Lake Charles,
10 Louisiana through the union of Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Dixon Sr.; and
11 WHEREAS, he is the loving and devoted husband of Jacqueline J. Dixon and the
12 cherished and dedicated father of Diamond NiJae Dixon; and
13 WHEREAS, he answered the call to preach the uncompromising word of the risen
14 Savior, preaching his first sermon on June 30, 1987; and
15 WHEREAS, in 1992 he was selected as one of the "Fifty Leaders of Tomorrow" by
16 Ebony magazine, in 1997 he was also honored by Lambda Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi
17 Fraternity, Inc. as Citizen of the Year, and in 1998 he was honored as Minister of the Year
18 by the Early Risers Kiwanis Club; and

1 WHEREAS, in June 2008 he earned a bachelor of arts degree in Religious Education
2 with a minor in Ministry from Calvary Theological Seminary, in Lake Charles, Louisiana;
3 in June 2004, he earned a bachelor of arts from Tyrannus University, in Albuquerque, New
4 Mexico in Biblical Studies and Theology; and in April 2010 he was inducted into the
5 Fraternity of The Sword at the Biblical Exposition Conference in Chicago, Illinois; and
6 WHEREAS, Reverend Dixon is the pastor and founder of the Greater Mount Olive
7 Missionary Baptist Church of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and
8 WHEREAS, in addition to overseeing the Greater Mount Olive family, Reverend
9 Dixon serves in the community on various boards which seek to empower and enhance the
10 quality of life for at-risk individuals and their families; and
11 WHEREAS, he served as the general secretary of the Third District Bogue Chitto
12 Missionary Association, as first vice president of the Louisiana Home and Foreign Missions
13 Baptist State Convention, and as the general secretary of the National Baptist Convention
14 of America, International and Incorporated; and
15 WHEREAS, for two decades, the Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church
16 has been guided by the outstanding commitment and dedicated leadership of Reverend S.C.
17 Dixon; and
18 WHEREAS, Reverend Dixon is widely respected and admired throughout his
19 community and has touched the lives of countless people; and 
20 WHEREAS, through God's kindness and mercy, the Greater Mount Olive Missionary
21 Baptist Church thrives as a community of faith, and members of the congregation have the
22 utmost trust that his grace will lead them on in harmony and thanksgiving as they celebrate
23 their beloved pastor, S.C. Dixon, in fellowship and continue to serve God and their
24 community while touched by his honorable leadership and inspiration.
25 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
26 does hereby commend Reverend S.C. Dixon upon his twentieth anniversary as founder and
27 pastor of the Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana,
28 does hereby express sincere and heartfelt appreciation for his guidance of this loving and
29 devoted church family, and wishes him the full measure of success, happiness, and the
30 richest of blessings in all of his future endeavors.
