SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 79

A RESOLUTION
To commend Reverend S. C. Dixon upon the celebration of his twentieth anniversary as
pastor of the Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church.
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens and the Senate of the Legislature
of Louisiana commend and celebrate Reverend S. C. Dixon for his remarkable term of
devotion to God and his congregation, and to extend to him sincere and heartfelt
appreciation upon the celebration of his twentieth anniversary as pastor of the Greater Mount
Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Sheldon Charles Dixon was born on May 3, 1965, in Lake Charles,
Louisiana through the union of Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Dixon Sr.; and
WHEREAS, he is the loving and devoted husband of Jacqueline J. Dixon and the
cherished and dedicated father of Diamond NiJae Dixon; and
WHEREAS, he answered the call to preach the uncompromising word of the risen
Savior, preaching his first sermon on June 30, 1987; and
WHEREAS, in 1992 he was selected as one of the "Fifty Leaders of Tomorrow" by
Ebony magazine, in 1997 he was also honored by Lambda Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi
Fraternity, Inc. as Citizen of the Year, and in 1998 he was honored as Minister of the Year
by the Early Risers Kiwanis Club; and
WHEREAS, in June 2008 he earned a bachelor of arts degree in Religious Education
with a minor in Ministry from Calvary Theological Seminary, in Lake Charles, Louisiana;
in June 2004, he earned a bachelor of arts from Tyrannus University, in Albuquerque, New
Mexico in Biblical Studies and Theology; and in April 2010 he was inducted into the
Fraternity of The Sword at the Biblical Exposition Conference in Chicago, Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Dixon is the pastor and founder of the Greater Mount Olive
Missionary Baptist Church of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, in addition to overseeing the Greater Mount Olive family, Reverend
Dixon serves in the community on various boards which seek to empower and enhance the
quality of life for at-risk individuals and their families; and
WHEREAS, he served as the general secretary of the Third District Bogue Chitto
Missionary Association, as first vice president of the Louisiana Home and Foreign Missions
Baptist State Convention, and as the general secretary of the National Baptist Convention
of America, International and Incorporated; and
WHEREAS, for two decades, the Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church
has been guided by the outstanding commitment and dedicated leadership of Reverend
S. C. Dixon; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Dixon is widely respected and admired throughout his
community and has touched the lives of countless people; and 
WHEREAS, through God's kindness and mercy, the Greater Mount Olive Missionary
Baptist Church thrives as a community of faith, and members of the congregation have the
utmost trust that his grace will lead them on in harmony and thanksgiving as they celebrate
their beloved pastor, S. C. Dixon, in fellowship and continue to serve God and their
community while touched by his honorable leadership and inspiration.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend Reverend S. C. Dixon upon his twentieth anniversary as founder and
pastor of the Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana,
does hereby express sincere and heartfelt appreciation for his guidance of this loving and
devoted church family, and wishes him the full measure of success, happiness, and the
richest of blessings in all of his future endeavors.
