SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 9

PHYSICAL THERAPISTS. Commends the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association for its
outstanding achievements and recognizes March 14 through 18, 2016, as Louisiana Physical
Therapy Association Week.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association for its outstanding achievements
3 and to recognize March 14 through 18, 2016, as Louisiana Physical Therapy
4 Association Week.
5 WHEREAS, physical therapy is a physical medicine and rehabilitation speciality that
6 remediates impairments and promotes mobility, function, and quality of life for patients
7 through examination, diagnosis, prognosis, and physical intervention, which uses mechanical
8 force and movements; and
9 WHEREAS, the practice of physical therapy endeavors to enhance the physical
10 health and functional abilities of the people of Louisiana through the prevention, diagnosis,
11 and treatment of movement dysfunctions and neuromusculosketal conditions; and
12 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association adopted its first by-laws
13 in 1982 and, since its inception, has provided outstanding leadership for those eligible for
14 its membership of physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, and students in Louisiana
15 who are pursuing careers in the practice of physical therapy; and
16 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association strives to expand its
17 membership among physical therapists, physical therapy assistants and students in these
18 areas of study in order to enhance participation in legislative policymaking to achieve greater

1 influence in health care delivery issues for the benefit of their patients; and
2 WHEREAS, the association has been instrumental in assisting its members to
3 provide the highest quality care available and the members of the association proudly
4 employ their skills in the best interest of their patients; and
5 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association proclaims in its mission
6 statement that it exists to optimize the health and quality of life of the people in Louisiana
7 by advancing the profession of physical therapy; and
8 WHEREAS, this outstanding organization has provided leadership to the physical
9 therapists and physical therapy assistants who practice in Louisiana by promoting key values
10 and behaviors that embrace professionalism; and
11 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association provides numerous
12 educational opportunities to meet the needs of students of physical therapy, clinicians, and
13 the society, at large; and
14 WHEREAS, with an aging population and an increasing emphasis on physical fitness
15 and health, the physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, and students engaged in the
16 study of these professions will play an ever increasingly significant part in improving health
17 outcomes and longevity for Louisiana citizens into the future.
18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
19 does hereby commend the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association for its outstanding
20 achievements and does hereby recognize March 14 through 18, 2016, as Louisiana Physical
21 Therapy Association Week.
22 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
23 Louisiana Physical Therapy Association.
