SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 90

SENATE.  Recognizes  April 28, 2016, as Louisiana Community and Technical College
System Workforce Experience and Taste of Louisiana Day at the State Capitol.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To recognize Thursday, April 28, 2016, as the Louisiana Community and Technical College
3 System Workforce Experience and Taste of Louisiana Day at the state capitol.
4 WHEREAS, Louisiana's community and technical colleges have provided
5 high-quality academic and workforce training programs since the creation of the system in
6 1999, offer credentials such as certificates, technical diplomas, industry based certifications
7 and associate degrees in high-demand, high-income industries, and provide workforce
8 solutions for business and industry; and
9 WHEREAS, in 2015, the thirteen colleges that make up the Louisiana Community
10 and Technical College System (LCTCS) enrolled more than 150,000 students in credit,
11 non-credit workforce training, and adult education programs; and
12 WHEREAS, in 2015, Louisiana's community and technical colleges had the largest
13 graduating class ever with 21,743 graduates with 70% graduating in high-demand high
14 income programs; and
15 WHEREAS, in 2015, Louisiana's community and technical colleges had more than
16 12,000 students to transfer to various four-year universities, and have worked collaboratively
17 with the state's four-year public universities to establish two plus two programs, articulation
18 agreements, and share best practices; and

1 WHEREAS, in 2015, WorkReady U, Louisiana's comprehensive adult education
2 system, served tens of thousands of undereducated and underemployed Louisiana citizens,
3 ranked 15th in the nation in basic skills attainment, and outpaced the national measurable
4 skills gain average by 3% and the southern average by 6%; and
5 WHEREAS, six colleges in the community and technical college system were named
6 the fastest growing community and technical colleges in the nation in 2015, and three
7 colleges had their largest graduating classes ever; and
8 WHEREAS, Louisiana's community and technical colleges have made it a priority
9 to build mutually beneficial partnerships with industry, to make strategic investments, and
10 to align programs and curricula to meet local and statewide industry needs; and
11 WHEREAS, Louisiana's community and technical colleges have worked diligently
12 to ensure their students receive a world-class education, at affordable prices, in nurturing and
13 rigorous environments that prepare them for rewarding careers; and
14 WHEREAS, the faculty and staff and leadership team have dedicated their lives and
15 put their professional reputations on the line for the advancement of the students and the
16 communities they serve; and
17 WHEREAS, Louisiana is served by the good works of LCTCS across the state and
18 her citizens can be confident in looking to LCTCS for solutions to all manner of challenges.
19 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
20 does hereby recognize Thursday, April 28, 2016, as Louisiana Community and Technical
21 College System Workforce Experience and Taste of Louisiana Day at the state capitol.
22 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does
23 hereby commend the dedicated work and contributions of the employees and students of
24 LCTCS to the state of Louisiana.
25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
26 LCTCS Board of Supervisors and System President Monty Sullivan.
