SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 90
BY SENATOR ALARIO 
A RESOLUTION
To recognize Thursday, April 28, 2016, as the Louisiana Community and Technical College
System Workforce Experience and Taste of Louisiana Day at the state capitol.
WHEREAS, Louisiana's community and technical colleges have provided
high-quality academic and workforce training programs since the creation of the system in
1999, offer credentials such as certificates, technical diplomas, industry based certifications
and associate degrees in high-demand, high-income industries, and provide workforce
solutions for business and industry; and
WHEREAS, in 2015, the thirteen colleges that make up the Louisiana Community
and Technical College System (LCTCS) enrolled more than 150,000 students in credit,
non-credit workforce training, and adult education programs; and
WHEREAS, in 2015, Louisiana's community and technical colleges had the largest
graduating class ever with 21,743 graduates with 70% graduating in high-demand
high-income programs; and
WHEREAS, in 2015, Louisiana's community and technical colleges had more than
12,000 students transfer to various four-year universities, and have worked collaboratively
with the state's four-year public universities to establish 2 + 2 Programs, articulation
agreements, and share best practices; and
WHEREAS, in 2015, WorkReady U, Louisiana's comprehensive adult education
system, served tens of thousands of undereducated and underemployed Louisiana citizens,
ranked 15th in the nation in basic skills attainment, and outpaced the national measurable
skills gain average by 3% and the southern average by 6%; and
WHEREAS, six colleges in the community and technical college system were named
the fastest growing community and technical colleges in the nation in 2015, and three
colleges had their largest graduating classes ever; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana's community and technical colleges have made it a priority
to build mutually beneficial partnerships with industry, to make strategic investments, and
to align programs and curricula to meet local and statewide industry needs; and

WHEREAS, Louisiana's community and technical colleges have worked diligently
to ensure their students receive a world-class education, at affordable prices, in nurturing and
rigorous environments that prepare them for rewarding careers; and
WHEREAS, the faculty and staff and leadership team have dedicated their lives and
put their professional reputations on the line for the advancement of the students and the
communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana is served by the good works of LCTCS across the state and
her citizens can be confident in looking to LCTCS for solutions to all manner of challenges.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby recognize Thursday, April 28, 2016, as Louisiana Community and Technical
College System Workforce Experience and Taste of Louisiana Day at the state capitol.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does
hereby commend the dedicated work and contributions of the employees and students of
LCTCS to the state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
LCTCS Board of Supervisors and System President Monty Sullivan.
