SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 92

SENATE.  Recognizes Thursday, April 28, 2016, as Workers' Memorial Day in recognition
of workers killed, injured, and disabled on the job.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To recognize Thursday, April 28, 2016, as Workers' Memorial Day in recognition of
3 workers killed, injured, and disabled on the job.
4 WHEREAS, Louisiana recognizes her citizens as her most valuable resource, and
5 Louisiana workers have been recognized as some of the most productive workers in
6 America; and
7 WHEREAS, the first Workers' Memorial Day was observed in 1989, and the date
8 was chosen because it marks the anniversary of the establishment of the Occupational Safety
9 and Health Administration and the date of a similar remembrance in Canada; and
10 WHEREAS, decades of struggle by workers have resulted in significant
11 improvements in working conditions, and all workers deserve the protection of the safest
12 work environment possible; and
13 WHEREAS, every year, tens of thousands of American workers die as the result of
14 workplace injuries and occupational diseases, and millions of workers are injured,
15 permanently disabled, or made ill on the job; and
16 WHEREAS, concerned Americans are determined to decrease such tragedies in part
17 by observing Workers' Memorial Day on Thursday, April 28, 2016, as a day to remember
18 these victims of workplace injuries and occupational diseases, to renew efforts to seek

1 stronger safety and health protections, better standards and enforcement, and fair and just
2 compensation, and to rededicate themselves to improving safety and health in every
3 American workplace. 
4 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
5 does hereby recognize Thursday, April 28, 2016, as Workers' Memorial Day in recognition
6 of workers killed, injured, and disabled on the job.
7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
8 president of the Louisiana American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial
9 Organizations (AFL-CIO).
