COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Carolyn Chandler upon her retirement as head of school
at Metairie Park Country Day School
1	A RESOLUTION
2To commend Carolyn Chandler upon her retirement as head of school at Metairie Park
3 Country Day School.
4 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to extend a sincere and heartfelt measure of
5commendation to Carolyn Chandler after eleven years of dedicated service as head of school
6at Metairie Park Country Day School; and
7 WHEREAS, Carolyn Chandler was raised in Texas and earned a bachelor's degree
8in English from Vanderbilt University; and
9 WHEREAS, Ms. Chandler furthered her education at the University of Tennessee
10at Chattanooga, where she received a master of arts degree in secondary education with a
11speciality in mathematics; and
12 WHEREAS, she served as the director of studies at the Girls Preparatory School in
13Chattanooga, Tennessee, for five years; and
14 WHEREAS, joining Metairie Park Country Day School in 2003 to serve as the
15assistant head of school, Ms. Chandler also served as an associate head of school; and
16 WHEREAS, in 2006, Ms. Chandler became head of school at Metairie Park Country
17Day School; during this time, she reestablished the school's academic, athletic, arts, and
18community programs and helped reopen the school after it was flooded by Hurricane
19Katrina; and

1 WHEREAS, under her exceptional leadership as head of school at Metairie Park
2Country Day School, the school's enrollment increased and a prekindergarten program was
3established; and
4 WHEREAS, Ms. Chandler has been the recipient of numerous awards throughout her
5years of teaching, such as the Girls Preparatory School's Distinguished Teacher Award and
6the Hubert Smothers Award for Distinguished Teaching and Dedicated Service; and
7 WHEREAS, in 2012, she was elected to a three-year term on the board for the
8National Association of Independent Schools; and
9 WHEREAS, she served on the board for the International School of New Orleans
10from 2004 until 2008, and she currently serves on the board for Longue Vue House and
11Gardens and is a member of the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation and Trinity Episcopal
12Church; and
13 WHEREAS, Ms. Chandler will always remain an inspiration to Metairie Park
14Country Day School for the vital contributions she made throughout her career of effective
15service as head of school, and she merits the highest commendation and most sincere
16congratulations for her exemplary term of service and for the tremendous pride, honor, and
17joy that she brings to all who know and love her.
18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
19Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Carolyn Chandler upon her retirement after
20eleven years of service as head of school at Metairie Park Country Day School and does
21hereby extend to her every good wish for success and happiness in all of her future
22endeavors.
23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
24to Carolyn Chandler.
