ENROLLED 2017 Second Extraordinary Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 9 BY REPRESENTATIVE ABRAMSON A RESOLUTION To commend Carolyn Chandler upon her retirement as head of school at Metairie Park Country Day School. WHEREAS, it is appropriate to extend a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation to Carolyn Chandler after eleven years of dedicated service as head of school at Metairie Park Country Day School; and WHEREAS, Carolyn Chandler was raised in Texas and earned a bachelor's degree in English from Vanderbilt University; and WHEREAS, Ms. Chandler furthered her education at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where she received a master of arts degree in secondary education with a speciality in mathematics; and WHEREAS, she served as the director of studies at the Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, for five years; and WHEREAS, joining Metairie Park Country Day School in 2003 to serve as the assistant head of school, Ms. Chandler also served as an associate head of school; and WHEREAS, in 2006, Ms. Chandler became head of school at Metairie Park Country Day School; during this time, she reestablished the school's academic, athletic, arts, and community programs and helped reopen the school after it was flooded by Hurricane Katrina; and WHEREAS, under her exceptional leadership as head of school at Metairie Park Country Day School, the school's enrollment increased and a prekindergarten program was established; and Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 9 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Ms. Chandler has been the recipient of numerous awards throughout her years of teaching, such as the Girls Preparatory School's Distinguished Teacher Award and the Hubert Smothers Award for Distinguished Teaching and Dedicated Service; and WHEREAS, in 2012, she was elected to a three-year term on the board for the National Association of Independent Schools; and WHEREAS, she served on the board for the International School of New Orleans from 2004 until 2008, and she currently serves on the board for Longue Vue House and Gardens and is a member of the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation and Trinity Episcopal Church; and WHEREAS, Ms. Chandler will always remain an inspiration to Metairie Park Country Day School for the vital contributions she made throughout her career of effective service as head of school, and she merits the highest commendation and most sincere congratulations for her exemplary term of service and for the tremendous pride, honor, and joy that she brings to all who know and love her. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Carolyn Chandler upon her retirement after eleven years of service as head of school at Metairie Park Country Day School and does hereby extend to her every good wish for success and happiness in all of her future endeavors.
