Expresses condolences upon the death of Reverend Frank Benjamin Jones Sr. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the 3 death of Reverend Frank Benjamin Jones Sr., longtime pastor in Delhi, Louisiana. 4 WHEREAS, Reverend Jones served as a preacher of the gospel for over twenty 5 years, and was a loving husband and father to his family while serving his community in a 6 variety of roles; and 7 WHEREAS, Frank Benjamin Jones Sr. was born to Frank and Olla Jones on May 12, 8 1934, in Delhi, where he lived and worked his entire life; and 9 WHEREAS, Reverend Jones married the love of his life, Georgia Mae Parker on 10 March 20, 1956, and the couple, with much love, patience, discipline, and humility, raised 11 eleven children in a home where religious faith and values were paramount; and 12 WHEREAS, Frank Jones accepted his calling as a minister of the gospel of Jesus 13 Christ in 1984 and served as pastor of New Zion Baptist Church for twenty-four years; and 14 WHEREAS, Frank Jones was a member of the New Delhi Lodge Number 184 of the 15 Grand Lodge of Louisiana, a Freemason organization; and 16 WHEREAS, Reverend Jones served as Worshipful Master of that lodge for 17 thirty-three years; and 18 WHEREAS, in addition to his service to his local lodge, Reverend Jones served as Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 6 SLS 172ES-9 ORIGINAL 1 the District Deputy Grand Master for the Twelfth Masonic District of the Most Worshipful 2 Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Louisiana; and 3 WHEREAS, Reverend Jones, a thirty-third degree Mason, also served in other 4 capacities, including Worthy Patron of the New Delhi Chapter Number 75 of the order of 5 Eastern Star, and as district deputy grand high priest of the most excellent Prince Hall Grand 6 chapter of the Holy Royal Arch Masons of Louisiana; and 7 WHEREAS, beyond his family and ministerial duties, Frank Jones began his work 8 career as a school bus driver from which he retired after thirty-three years, worked in 9 maintenance at the Starcraft Boat factory for twenty-two years, and was employed as a 10 deputy sheriff for the Franklin Parish Sheriff's Office for twenty-two and one-half years, 11 working at the parish detention center; and 12 WHEREAS, Reverend Jones was devoted to his family and was firm in his belief that 13 he was supported by the Lord and his family, which brought him great peace; and 14 WHEREAS, Reverend Jones died on Sunday, June 4, 2017, and is survived by his 15 devoted wife of sixty-one years, Georgia Mae Parker-Jones, eight of his eleven children, 16 twenty-one grandchildren, and twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and 17 WHEREAS, Reverend Frank Jones was a hardworking and dedicated man of God, 18 a loving and caring family man, and a man who worked diligently to provide for his family 19 and to improve his community; all endeavors designed to leave the world a better place for 20 his having been here. 21 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 22 does hereby express sincere condolences upon the death of Reverend Frank Benjamin Jones 23 Sr., longtime pastor in Delhi, Louisiana. 24 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 25 Georgia Mae Parker-Jones.
