ELECTION DAYS:  Calls a special election on October 14, 2017, for submitting proposed
constitutional amendments to the state's electors
1	AN ACT
2To provide for a special statewide election to be held on October 14, 2017, for the purpose
3 of submitting proposed constitutional amendments to the electors of the state; to
4 provide for the conduct of such election; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1.  A special statewide election shall be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017,
7for the purpose of submitting to the electors of the state proposed constitutional amendments
8as contained in joint resolutions concurred in by each house of the legislature during the
92017 Regular Session of the Legislature of Louisiana.
10 Section 2.  The election for which provision is made in this Act shall be held in
11compliance with and subject to the applicable provisions of the Louisiana Election Code.
12 Section 3.  This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not
13signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature
14by the governor, as provided in Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If
15vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become
16effective on the day following such approval.
17 Section 4.  This Act shall be void and of no effect if no proposed constitutional
18amendment as contained in a joint resolution that specifies the special statewide election
19provided in this Act as the statewide election at which the proposed constitutional
20amendment shall be submitted to the electors is concurred in by each house of the legislature
21during the 2017 Regular Session of the Legislature of Louisiana.

Abstract:  Provides for a special statewide election to be held on Sat., Oct. 14, 2017, for the
purpose of submitting proposed constitutional amendments to the electors of the
state.
Present constitution (Const. Art. XIII, ยง1(A)(1)) requires that each joint resolution proposing
a constitutional amendment specify the statewide election at which the proposed
constitutional amendment shall be submitted to the state's electors for ratification. Provides
that special elections for submitting proposed constitutional amendments may be authorized
by law.
Proposed law provides that a special statewide election shall be held on Sat., Oct. 14, 2017,
for the purpose of submitting to the state's electors proposed constitutional amendments
contained in joint resolutions concurred in during the 2017 R.S. Provides that proposed law
shall be void and of no effect if no proposed constitutional amendment that specifies the
special statewide election on Oct. 14, 2017, as the statewide election at which the proposed
constitutional amendment shall be submitted to the electors is concurred in.
Proposed law provides that the election shall be held in compliance with applicable
provisions of the La. Election Code.
Effective upon signature of governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
