RÉSUMÉ DIGEST ACT 138 (HB 142) 2017 Regular Session Pugh Existing constitution (Const. Art. XIII, §1(A)(1)) requires that each joint resolution proposing a constitutional amendment specify the statewide election at which the proposed constitutional amendment shall be submitted to the state's electors for ratification. Provides that special elections for submitting proposed constitutional amendments may be authorized by law. New law provides that a special statewide election shall be held on Oct. 14, 2017, for the purpose of submitting to the state's electors proposed constitutional amendments contained in joint resolutions concurred in during the 2017 R.S. Provides that new law shall be void and of no effect if no proposed constitutional amendment that specifies the special statewide election on Oct. 14, 2017, as the statewide election at which the proposed constitutional amendment shall be submitted to the electors is concurred in. (Act Nos. 427, 428, and 429 of the 2017 R.S. provide for submittal to the electors at this election.) New law provides that the election shall be held in compliance with applicable provisions of existing law (the La. Election Code). Effective upon signature of governor (June 12, 2017).
