HB 185 Original	2017 Regular Session	Armes
Abstract: Establishes the La. Military Medics and Corpsmen Pilot Program.
Proposed law defines "department", "military medical personnel", and "pilot program".
Proposed law authorizes the La. Dept. of Veteran Affairs (LDVA), in collaboration with each state
agency or professional or occupational licensing board or commission that regulates the practice of
a healthcare profession, to establish a pilot program in which military medical personnel may
practice and perform certain delegated acts that constitute healthcare services under the supervision
of a physician or podiatrist who holds an active, unrestricted license in La.
Proposed law requires the activities to reflect the level of training and experience of the military
medical personnel and requires the supervising physician or podiatrist to retain responsibility for the
care of the patient.
Proposed law requires LDVA to report to the governor and to the House and Senate committees on
health and welfare no later than 30 days prior to the start of the regular legislative session each year
on the progress of the pilot program and to provide a written report of findings and recommendations
upon termination of the program.
The pilot program established by proposed law terminates on Dec. 31, 2020.
