                    RÉSUMÉ DIGEST
ACT 83 (HB 200) 2017 Regular Session	Falconer
Existing law (Act No. 164 of the 1984 R.S.) creates and provides for the Municipal Police
Employees Civil Service in the city of Mandeville. Provides that classified civil service shall
embrace all positions of employment and all officers and employees. Existing law creates
and provides for a Municipal Police Employees Civil Service Board of the city of Mandeville
for the purpose of administering the classified civil service system.
Prior law authorized the civil service board, subject to the approval of the governing
authority of Mandeville, to appoint and employ a personnel director who was a member of
the classified civil service system and was responsible to the board for the administration of
the system. Provided relative to the qualifications and compensation of the personnel
director. Further authorized the board, in lieu of appointing a personnel director, to assume
all the powers and duties of the personnel director.
Existing law (the Mandeville home rule charter) creates and provides for a civil service
system for other municipal employees in Mandeville.
New law provides that the human resources director for the classified civil service system
for other municipal employees shall be the personnel director for the classified civil service
system for police personnel.
Effective on the first day of January following an election at which the voters of Mandeville
approve an amendment to the city's home rule charter to provide that the human resources
director of the classified civil service system for other municipal employees shall be the
personnel director of the classified civil service system for police personnel.
