Abstract: Provides that 100% of the premium costs of certain insurance benefits shall be available
to sheriffs and deputy sheriffs who retire on and after July 1, 2017, with 24 years or more of
continuous service with the Madison Parish Sheriff's Department.
Present law provides that 100% of the premium costs of group hospital, surgical, medical expense,
dental insurance, and the first $10,000 of life insurance shall be available to sheriffs and deputy
sheriffs who retired prior to July 1, 2009, with either: (a) at least 15 years of service at age 55 or
older; or (b) at least 30 years or more of service at any age.
Present law provides that 100% of the premium costs of group hospital, surgical, medical expense,
dental insurance, and life insurance shall be available to any sheriff or deputy sheriff who retires on
and after July 1, 2009, and who has continuous service with the Madison Parish Sheriff's Department
of either: (a) at least 15 years as of June 30, 2009; or (b) 30 years.
Proposed law retains present law and also provides that 100% of the premium costs of group
hospital, surgical, medical expense, dental insurance, and life insurance shall be available to sheriffs
and deputy sheriffs who retire on and after July 1, 2017, with 24 years or more of continuous service
with the Madison Parish Sheriff's Department.
