HIGHWAYS: Designates a portion of Highway 171 in Anacoco, La., as the "Sergeant
James Edward Martin Memorial Highway"
1 AN ACT
2To redesignate a portion of United States Highway 171 in Anacoco, Louisiana, as the
3 "Sergeant James Edward Martin Memorial Highway"; to provide relative to a
4 potential route designation conflict; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, the portion of
7United States Highway 171 situated in the city limits of Anacoco, Louisiana, in Vernon
8Parish, which is otherwise known as the Purple Heart Highway, shall be known and
9redesignated as the "Sergeant James Edward Martin Memorial Highway".
10 Section 2. To the extent that this designation is in conflict with Act No. 75 of the
112003 Regular Session, which included this portion of United States Highway 171 in the route
12designated the "Purple Heart Highway", this designation shall control and supersede that set
13forth in Act No. 75 of the 2003 Regular Session.
14 Section 3. The Department of Transportation and Development or its contractors are
15hereby directed to erect and maintain appropriate signage reflecting this redesignation.

Provides that in the event of a conflict with present law (Act No. 75 of the 2003 Regular
Session), this designation shall supercede.
Directs the Dept. of Transportation and Development to erect and maintain appropriate
signage reflecting this highway redesignation.
Summary of Amendments Adopted by House
The Committee Amendments Proposed by House Committee on Transportation,
Highways and Public Works to the original bill:
1. Make technical changes.
2. Add that this designation shall supercede the previous designation of this portion
of U.S. Hwy. 171 in Act 75 of the 2003 Regular Session.
