HOUSE BILL NO. 302

PROBATION:  Increases the maximum amount of parole supervision fees and provides
relative to the use of the funds
1	AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 15:574.4.2(A)(2)(e), relative to parole supervision fees; to
3 provide relative to conditions of supervised release for persons released on parole;
4 to increase the maximum amount of parole supervision fees; to provide relative to
5 the use of funds received from the increase in the amount of supervision fees; and
6 to provide for related matters.
7Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
8 Section 1.  R.S. 15:574.4.2(A)(2)(e) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as
9follows: 
10 ยง574.4.2.  Decisions of committee on parole; nature, order, and conditions of parole;

14	(2)  The committee may also require, either at the time of his release on
15 parole or at any time while he remains on parole, that he conform to any of the
16 following conditions of parole which are deemed appropriate to the circumstances
17 of the particular case:

19	(e)  Pay supervision fees to the Department of Public Safety and Corrections
20 in an amount not to exceed sixty-three one hundred dollars based upon his ability to

1 pay as determined by the committee on parole.  Payments are due on the first day of
2 each month.

4 Section 2.  Beginning on the effective date of this Act and each year thereafter, the
5funds received from the increase in the amount of supervision fees from not more than sixty-
6three dollars to not more than one-hundred dollars pursuant to this Act, will be dedicated to
7the recruiting and retention of adult probation and parole officers without the supplanting
8of any budget funds used for those purposes.

Abstract:  Increases the maximum amount of the monthly fee for parole supervision and
provides relative to the use of the funds received from the increase.
Present law authorizes the committee on parole to impose certain conditions or requirements
on a person who is released on parole including the requirement that the person pay a fee to
the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections in an amount not to exceed $63, based upon the
offender's ability to pay as determined by the committee on parole.
Proposed law increases the maximum amount of the fee from $63 to $100.
Proposed law provides that beginning on the effective date of the proposed law and each
year thereafter, the funds received from the proposed increase in the amount of supervision
fees will be dedicated to the recruitment and retention of adult probation and parole officers
without the supplanting of any budget funds used for those purposes.
