HB 404 Original 2017 Regular Session	Hensgens
Abstract: Authorizes individuals enrolled in certain education programs to practice
polysomnography.
Present law prohibits an individual from engaging or attempting to engage in the practice
of polysomnography or performing or attempting to perform polysomnograms, unless the
individual is licensed by the La. State Bd. of Medical Examiners (LSBME).

Education Programs (CAAHEP).
(2)A sleep technologist program accredited by the American Board of Sleep Medicine.
(3)A sleep technologist program approved by the Bd. of Registered Polysomnographic
Technologists.
Present law defines "polysomnographic technician" or "permit technician" as an allied health
professional who holds a permit issued by the LSBME to practice polysomnography under
the direct supervision of the physician or a qualified allied health professional licensed by
the LSBME whose scope of practice includes polysomnography.
Proposed law repeals present law.
Present law requires an applicant for a polysomnographic technologist license to
demonstrate that the applicant has graduated from a CAAHEP accredited program and has
passed an examination that is administered as a component of a certification program that
is accredited by a national accrediting organization approved by the LSBME.
