R.S. 33:423.27 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 10 ยง423.27. City of Eunice; authority over police personnel by chief of police 11 Notwithstanding the provisions of R.S. 33:423 or any other provision of law 12 to the contrary, in and for the city of Eunice, the board of alderman may, by 13 resolution, designate the chief of police as the appointing authority of the police 14 department and thereby authorize him to appoint, discipline, and discharge police 15 personnel subject to the budgetary limitations established by the mayor and board 16 of alderman pertaining to the number of allotted positions for the police department. Present law, applicable to most Lawrason Act municipalities, provides that the elected police chief makes recommendations to the mayor and board of alderman regarding the appointment, promotion, discipline, and dismissal of police personnel. Provides that the mayor and alderman are responsible for taking these actions with regard to police personnel. Proposed law, applicable to Eunice, provides that the board of alderman may by resolution authorize the police chief to appoint, discipline, and discharge police personnel subject to the budgetary limitations of the mayor and board of alderman pertaining to the number of allotted positions.
