DISTRICTS/PUBLIC IMPROVE: Provides relative to District Five Road Commission of
St. Landry Parish and District Six Road Commission of St. Landry Parish
1 AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 48:600.1(B)(1) and (4) and 600.2(B)(1) and (4), relative to
3 district five and six road commissions of St. Landry Parish; to provide relative to the
4 appointment of the commissioners of the boards of district five and six road
5 commissions of St. Landry Parish; and to provide for related matters.
6 Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published
7 as provided by Article III, Section 13 of the Constitution of
8 Louisiana.
9Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
10 Section 1. R.S. 48:600.1(B)(1) and (4) and 600.2(B)(1) and (4) are hereby amended
11and reenacted to read as follows:
12 §600.1. District Five Road Commission of St. Landry Parish

14 B.(1) The commissioners of the board shall be appointed by the governing
15 authority of the parish of St. Landry. The governing authority shall appoint one
16 member from each of the thirteen precincts within Police Jury District Five. After
17 August 1, 2017, one member shall be appointed from each of the current number of
18 precincts within Police Jury District Five as certified by the St. Landry Parish
19 register of voters. who Each member appointed shall be a resident of such precinct.

1 The governing authority of the parish shall attempt to achieve a racial balance when
2 appointing the commissioners to the board.

4 (4) The terms of commissioners of the board appointed upon the expiration
5 of the initial terms shall be two four years, and upon expiration of a term of office,
6 the successor shall be appointed as provided in Paragraph B(1) (B)(1) of this Section.
7 No commissioner shall serve for more than two terms. Commissioners may serve
8 for two consecutive four-year terms after which the commissioner may be
9 reappointed four years from the completion of his last consecutive term.

13 B.(1) The commissioners of the board shall be appointed by the governing

16 1, 2017, one member shall be appointed from each of the current number of precincts
17 within Police Jury District Six as certified by the St. Landry Parish register of voters.

Abstract: To provide for the appointment of the board of commissioners of St Landry
Parish District Five and Six Road Commissions
Present law provides that each member of the board of commissioners of the St. Landry
Parish District Five Road Commission shall be appointed from each of the 13 precincts of
police jury district five.
Proposed law provides that after August 1, 2017, each member of the board of
commissioners of the St. Landry Parish District Five Road Commission shall be appointed
from the current number of precincts within police jury district five.
Present law provides for two-year terms for members of the St. Landry Parish District Five
Road Commission board of commissioners.
Proposed law provides that no member of the board of commissioners may serve more than
two consecutive four-year terms after which they may be reappointed four years from the
end of their last consecutive term.
Present law provides that each member of the board of commissioners of the St. Landry
Parish District Six Road Commission shall be appointed from each of the six precincts of
police jury district six.
