[R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] HB 62 Original 2017 Regular Session Hall Abstract: Requires retirees of the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office hired on or after July 1, 2017, to have at least 15 years of service with the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office and attained the age of 55 in order to have the premiums for certain health and life insurance benefits paid from the sheriff's general fund. Present law provides that the premium costs of group hospital, surgical, medical expense, and dental insurance and the first $10,000 of life insurance contracted for under the provisions of present law shall be paid in full from the sheriff's general fund for all sheriffs and deputy sheriffs retired with at least 15 years of service who are at least 55 years of age or retired with at least 30 years of service at any age. Present law is applicable only to sheriff's offices in the parishes of Acadia, Allen, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Bossier, Caddo, Calcasieu, Caldwell, Cameron, Catahoula, Concordia, East Feliciana, Grant, Iberville, Jackson, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, Lincoln, Livingston, Morehouse, Natchitoches, Pointe Coupee, Rapides, Red River, St. Bernard, St. James, St. Martin, Tangipahoa, Union, Vermillion, Vernon, Washington, West Baton Rouge, West Carroll, and West Feliciana and the sheriff of the Civil District Court of the parish of Orleans, for their respective retirees. Proposed law retains present law for those persons hired by the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office prior to July 1, 2017. Provides that the premium costs of group hospital, surgical, medical expenses, and dental insurance and the first $10,000 of life insurance shall be paid in full from the sheriff's general fund for any sheriff or full-time deputy sheriff hired by the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office on or after July 1, 2017 who: (1)Is entitled to receive monthly benefits from the Sheriff's Pension and Relief Fund. (2)Retired from the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office with at least 15 years of service with the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office. (3)Is at least 55 years of age. Effective upon signature of governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action. (Adds R.S. 13:5554(FF))
