RÉSUMÉ DIGEST ACT 26 (HB 62) 2017 Regular Session Hall Existing law provides that the premium costs of group hospital, surgical, medical expense, and dental insurance and the first $10,000 of life insurance contracted for under the provisions of existing law shall be paid in full from the sheriff's general fund for all sheriffs and deputy sheriffs retired with at least 15 years of service who are at least 55 years of age or retired with at least 30 years of service at any age. Existing law is applicable only to sheriff's offices in the parishes of Acadia, Allen, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Bossier, Caddo, Calcasieu, Caldwell, Cameron, Catahoula, Concordia, East Feliciana, Grant, Iberville, Jackson, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, Lincoln, Livingston, Morehouse, Natchitoches, Pointe Coupee, Rapides, Red River, St. Bernard, St. James, St. Martin, Tangipahoa, Union, Vermilion, Vernon, Washington, West Baton Rouge, West Carroll, and West Feliciana and the sheriff of the Civil District Court of the parish of Orleans, for their respective retirees. New law retains existing law for those persons hired by the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office prior to July 1, 2017. New law provides that the premium costs of group hospital, surgical, medical expenses, and dental insurance and the first $10,000 of life insurance shall be paid in full from the sheriff's general fund for any sheriff or full-time deputy sheriff hired by the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office on or after July 1, 2017 who: (1)Is entitled to receive monthly benefits from the Sheriff's Pension and Relief Fund. (2)Retires from the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office with at least 15 years of service with the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office. (3)Is at least 55 years of age.
