TRAFFIC:  Establishes lane use requirements for certain motor vehicles on elevated
interstate highways
1	AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 32:71(B)(3), relative to lane usage on interstate highways; to require that
3 certain vehicles drive in the right hand lane on interstate highways that are
4 continuously elevated for a length of more than five miles; and to provide for related
5 matters.
6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1.  R.S. 32:71(B)(3) is hereby enacted to read as follows:

12	(3)  In addition to the requirements of Paragraphs (1) and (2) of this
13 Subsection, any school bus, truck-tractor, trailer, semi-trailer, or any combination of
14 these vehicles traveling in this state on any portion of an interstate highway that is
15 continuously elevated for a length of more than five miles shall be driven in the right
16 hand lane that is available for traffic, or as close as practicable to the right hand curb
17 or edge of the roadway, except when preparing to exit the interstate using a left lane
18 exit and signs are erected giving notice thereof.

1 Section 2.  This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not
2signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature
3by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana.  If
4vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become
5effective on the day following such approval.

Abstract: Requires any school bus, truck-tractor, trailer, semi-trailer, or any combination
of these vehicles to travel in the right hand lane on certain interstate highways.
Proposed law requires any school bus, truck-tractor, trailer, semi-trailer, or any combination
of these vehicles to travel on an interstate highway that is continuously elevated for a length
of more than five miles in the right hand lane or as close as practicable to the right hand curb
or edge of roadway, except when preparing to exit the interstate using a signed left exit.
Effective upon signature of governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
