HLS 17RS-2773 ORIGINAL 2017 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 127 BY REPRESENTATIVE EDMONDS COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Parkview Baptist High School girls' basketball team upon winning the 2017 Division II State Championship 1 A RESOLUTION 2To commend the Parkview Baptist High School girls' basketball team upon winning the 3 2017 Division II State Championship. 4 WHEREAS, the Parkview Baptist High School Lady Eagles basketball team 5completed a phenomenal season by earning the title of 2017 Division II state champions 6after securing a sixty-nine to forty-nine victory over the University Laboratory High School 7Lady Cubs; and 8 WHEREAS, this thrilling victory marks the first Division II state basketball 9championship for the Lady Eagles and erases the bitter taste of a state runner-up finish in the 102016 state championship game; and 11 WHEREAS, the members of the team performed at the highest level of excellence 12throughout the 2016-2017 regular season and playoffs, amassing a record of twenty-nine 13wins and four losses; and 14 WHEREAS, the team's amazing feats could not have been achieved without the 15unwavering dedication, support, and guidance of head coach Christina Lockett Anderson and 16her coaching staff, as well as the passion of the many supporters of the Lady Eagles, who 17contributed to the success of the school's basketball program; and 18 WHEREAS, the Lady Eagles' extraordinary season led to a number of accolades for 19the players, including Skyler Goodwin receiving a first-team selection to the 2016-2017 All- 20USA Louisiana girls' basketball team from USA Today, a first-team selection to the 2017 21Class 3A All-State girls' basketball team as well as being selected Outstanding Player for the Page 1 of 2 HLS 17RS-2773 ORIGINAL HR NO. 127 1Class 3A All-State girls' basketball team by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association, and 2a first-team selection to the 2017 All-District 6-3A girls' basketball team, as well as being 3selected Most Valuable Player for the 2017 All-District 6-3A girls' basketball team; and 4 WHEREAS, the accolades did not stop there as Leah Collins and Megan Hatch 5received honorable mention selections to the 2017 Class 3A All-State girls' basketball team 6and Megan Hatch was also named to the 2017 All-District 6-3A girls' basketball team, with 7coach Christina Lockett Anderson being selected Coach of the Year; and 8 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend the Parkview Baptist High School girls' 9basketball team upon winning the 2017 Division II State Championship; and 10 WHEREAS, all alumni and fans recognize the tremendous honor, pride, and joy that 11the team brings to Parkview Baptist High School, East Baton Rouge Parish, and the state of 12Louisiana. 13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 14Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the Parkview Baptist High 15School girls' basketball team upon winning the 2017 Division II State Championship; does 16hereby record for posterity this exceptional team's triumph in the great sport of basketball; 17and does hereby extend best wishes to the players, coaches, and everyone involved with this 18fine basketball program as they celebrate their championship season and prepare for 19continued success in the future. 20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted 21to Parkview Baptist High School head coach, Christina Lockett Anderson.
