HLS 17RS-1179 ORIGINAL 2017 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 128 BY REPRESENTATIVE PIERRE COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Lafayette Christian Academy Knights boys' basketball team upon winning the 2016-2017 Division IV state championship 1 A RESOLUTION 2To commend the Lafayette Christian Academy Knights boys' basketball team upon winning 3 the 2016-2017 Division IV state championship; and to commend the Knights on their 4 extraordinary achievements for the 2016-2017 basketball season. 5 WHEREAS, the members of the team performed at the highest level of excellence 6throughout the 2016-2017 season, amassing a record of thirty wins and five losses for the 7season and finishing with fourteen wins and zero losses in district play; and 8 WHEREAS, the foremen, Caleb Starks and Gregory Williams, Jr.; the gatekeepers, 9Kalep Crane, Pierre Dupre, Victor Dupre, Jordan Hall, Terrance Jones, Errol Rogers, Jr., and 10Kailen Thibodeaux; and the enforcers, Hunter Campbell, Cameron Castro, Zachary 11Clements, Logan Gabriel, Javian Howard, and Martin Lee all played tremendous roles in the 12success of the 2016-2017 boys' basketball team; and 13 WHEREAS, in 2017, the Lafayette Christian Academy Knights boys' basketball team 14made their fourth consecutive trip to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Louisiana High School 15Athletic Association boys' basketball tournament; and 16 WHEREAS, the tournament was held at Burton Coliseum on the campus of McNeese 17State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana; and 18 WHEREAS, in their first appearance of the Division IV championship game, the 19Knights took on the Southern Laboratory Kittens; and 20 WHEREAS, the Knights had outstanding performances from several players, but 21most notably from Junior Gregory Williams Jr. who finished the championship game with Page 1 of 2 HLS 17RS-1179 ORIGINAL HR NO. 128 1twenty-four points, five rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and five steals to claim the Most 2Valuable Player Award; and 3 WHEREAS, the incredible defense of the Knights held the Southern Laboratory 4Kittens to just nineteen points in the second half and forced fifteen turnovers in the game; 5and 6 WHEREAS, the Lafayette Christian Academy Knights boys' basketball team 7completed a sensational season by earning the title of Division IV state champions after 8defeating Southern Laboratory by a score of fifty-three to forty-three in a hard fought state 9championship game; and 10 WHEREAS, the accomplishments of this team could not have been achieved without 11the unwavering dedication, support, guidance, and skill of head coach, Byron Starks; 12assistant coaches, Josiah Broussard, Chris Cane, Joshua Comeaux, and Chris Poullard; and 13managers, Robley Domingue and Lindsey Porter. 14 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 15Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the Lafayette Christian 16Academy Knights boys' basketball team upon winning the 2016-2017 Division IV state 17championship; does hereby record for posterity this exceptional team's triumph in the sport 18of basketball; and does hereby extend best wishes to the players, coaches, and all others 19involved in this basketball program's success as they celebrate their championship season 20and prepare for continued success in the future. 21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted 22to the head coach of the Lafayette Christian Academy Knights boys' basketball team, Byron 23Starks.
