HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 198

A RESOLUTION
To commend the Episcopal High School Knights girls' and boys' track and field teams upon
winning the 2017 Class 2A outdoor state championships.
WHEREAS, the 2017 school year saw the Knights of Episcopal High School of
Baton Rouge garner state championships in girls' and boys' outdoor track and field; and
WHEREAS, the girls' track and field team, led by Alicia Stamey, who placed first
in the 1600-meter run, second in the 800-meter run, and third in the 3200-meter run, and
Kevin Tripeaux II, who captured state titles in the high jump with a jump of six feet six
inches, the long jump with a jump of twenty-three feet one inch, the triple jump with a jump
of forty-six feet and three-fourths of an inch, and a fourth-place finish in the javelin, the
Episcopal High School Knights girls' track and field team racked up a total of eighty points
and the boys' track and field team accumulated a total of one hundred sixteen points to take
both the girls' and boys' outdoor track and field Class 2A state championships; and
WHEREAS, with the sweep this year, girls' coach Eddie Cole and boys' coach
Claney Duplechin led the Episcopal High School Knights to their fourth consecutive sweep
of the Class 2A boys' and girls' outdoor state championships; and
WHEREAS, with only eight girls participating in seven out of eighteen scheduled
events, each member of the Episcopal High School Knights girls' track and field team
deserves special recognition for the dedication and effort displayed that culminated in this
year's Class 2A outdoor state title: Alicia Stamey, 1600-meter champion, 800-meter runner-
up, and third-place finisher in the 3200-meter run; Adele Broussard, 800-meter champion,

fourth-place finisher in the 1600-meter run, and 4x400-meter relay champion; Deven
Kimbrell, 400-meter runner-up, 4x200-meter relay champion, and 4x400-meter relay
champion; Hunter Heaslip, third-place finisher in the 400-meter run, 4x200-meter relay
champion, and 4x400-meter relay champion; Jamiee Williams, 4x200-meter relay champion
and 4x400-meter relay champion; Mary Kathryn Underwood, 4x200-meter relay champion;
and Hayley Schwab, 3200-meter run runner-up; and
WHEREAS, each member of the Episcopal High School Knights boys' outdoor track
and field team deserves special recognition for the dedication and effort displayed that
resulted in this year's Class 2A outdoor state title: Kevin Tripeaux II, high jump champion,
long jump state champion, triple jump state champion, and fourth-place finisher in the
javelin; Graham Frazier, 1600-meter run champion and third-place finisher in the 3200-
meter run, Caden Dickinson, 300-meter hurdles champion, fourth-place finisher in the 110-
meter hurdles, and 4x400-meter relay champion; Trevor Babcock, 800-meter run champion
and 4x400-meter relay champion; Jacob Dewitt, 4x400-meter relay champion; Hunter
Wendt, 4x400 meter relay champion; Raymond Gould, 4x100-meter relay runner-up; Alex
Harrison, 4x100-meter relay runner-up; Austin Jemison, 4x100-meter relay runner-up;
Brandan Garrido, 4x100-meter relay runner-up; Kenneth Schafer, 1600-meter run runner-up;
Kristopher Jackson, 3200-meter run runner-up; Michael Lee, fourth-place finisher in the
800-meter run; and Dell Portwood, fourth-place finisher in the discus throw; and
WHEREAS, Coach Cole and Coach Duplechin, along with their assistant coaches,
have instilled an ethic of winning in these young women and men and have demonstrated
leadership and motivational skills that have led to success both on and off the field; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the well-deserved titles the 2017 Episcopal
High School Knights have earned; to commend the team for the ability they have displayed,
particularly at the most difficult level of competition; and to express sincere and heartfelt
congratulations to the team members and coaching staff for the merits earned and the
sportsmanship shown while achieving the highest girls' and boys' outdoor track and field
honor possible for Episcopal High School.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the athletes and coaching
staff of the Episcopal High School Knights girls' and boys' outdoor track and field teams for
winning the 2017 Class 2A outdoor state championships, capping off a truly spectacular
season; and hereby does recognize the team's outstanding performance and the pride and
honor they have brought to their school and community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Episcopal High School coaches Eddie Cole and Claney Duplechin.
