SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Designates Monday, May 8, 2017, as Psychology Day
at the state capitol
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend the Louisiana Psychological Association and to recognize Monday, May 8,
3 2017, as Psychology Day at the state capitol.
4 WHEREAS, psychology is a diverse discipline, grounded in science, with numerous
5applications in everyday life; and
6 WHEREAS, practicing psychologists have the professional training and clinical
7skills to help people learn to cope more effectively with life issues and mental health
8problems; and
9 WHEREAS, psychologists advance the creation, communication, evaluation, and
10application of psychological knowledge to benefit society and to improve the lives of their
11patients and clients; and
12 WHEREAS, psychologists study normal and abnormal behavior and treat individuals
13with mental and emotional problems; and
14 WHEREAS, psychologists study and encourage behaviors that build wellness and
15emotional resilience; and
16 WHEREAS, practicing psychologists can help with a range of health problems and
17use an assortment of evidence-based treatments to help people improve their lives; and
18 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Psychological Association, as the state professional
19association representing psychologists in all practice, research, and academic settings, works
20to further the development of psychology as a science, as an applied practice, and as a means
21of promoting human welfare; and

1 WHEREAS, currently, more than seven hundred fifty licensed psychologists practice
2in this state to serve the people of Louisiana; and
3 WHEREAS, in May, the Louisiana Psychological Association will host its annual
4convention with an emphasis in 2017 on the support that psychology affords patients and
5clients of all ages and in all stages of life.
6 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
7Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Louisiana Psychological Association and
8does hereby recognize Monday, May 8, 2017, as Psychology Day at the state capitol.
9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
10to Lucinda DeGrange, Ph.D., president of the Louisiana Psychology Association, and Cindy
11Bishop, executive director.
