MOTOR VEHICLES. Authorizes issuance of a military honor license plate with an
identical number for a motorcycle or boat trailer. (8/1/17)
1 AN ACT
2 To enact R.S. 47:490.1.1, relative to military honor license plates; to provide for issuance
3 of a military honor license plate with an identical number for a motorcycle and a boat
4 trailer to veterans and other military personnel; and to provide for related matters.
5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. R.S. 47:490.1.1 is hereby enacted to read as follows:
7 ยง490.1.1. Military honor plates for veterans and other military personnel;
8 issuance of military honor license plate with an identical number
9 for motorcycle and boat trailer
10 A. The provisions of this Section shall be applicable to a Louisiana
11 resident who has been issued a military honor license plate under the provisions
12 of this Part.
13 B. Upon application of a Louisiana resident who holds a military honor
14 license plate issued under the provisions of this Part, the deputy secretary of
15 public safety shall issue a military honor license plate with an identical number
16 for use on an applicant's motorcycle and boat trailer in lieu of the regular motor
17 vehicle registration license plate applicable to a motorcycle and boat trailer. The

1 applicant shall comply with state laws relating to registration and licensing of
2 a motorcycle and boat trailer.
3 C. No vehicle license tax and fee shall be charged for issuance of an
4 additional military honor license plate as authorized by this Section, and such
5 plate shall not be subject to the renewal requirements applicable to standard
6 plates.
7 D. The deputy secretary of public safety shall adopt such rules and
8 regulations as are necessary to implement the provisions of this Section, including but
9 not limited to rules and regulations governing the transfer and disposition of such
10 license plates.

Present law authorizes the issuance of military honor license plates to veterans and other
military personnel.
Proposed law authorizes the holder of a military honor license plate issued under present law
to apply for and requires the deputy secretary of public safety to issue a military honor
license plate with an identical number for use on an applicant's motorcycle and boat trailer
without payment of any additional license tax or fee.
Proposed law requires the deputy secretary of public safety to adopt necessary rules and
regulations to implement its provisions.
